No thanks to Cville. To many delusional wet dream Democrats. That alone would keep me away!

Honestly, I'd rather live south of C'ville in Lovingston, Schuyler, or Scottsville, etc. and drive into C'ville when necessary. Traffic is getting worse each time I visit and it's not something I care for.

Charlottesville for retirement? We live in Georgia right now and moved here from Idaho. We are not going back to Idaho and we aren’t super thrilled with GA. Our daughters live in the DC area. We aren’t stuck to living in the city but we do want the amenities we enjoy. Things like great coffee shops, golf courses, whole foods or health food co-ops, OLLI classes at local colleges, hiking trails, and lots of opportunities to make friends at our age. Retirement is only a short 7 years away so I’m beginning to narrow down our choices. What areas around Charlottesville would you recommend and is this a good place to retire in VA?

Cville has all the items you list as desired. There is the 'Center', which has activities focused on folks 55+, with lots of opportunities to meet others. The big plus is the University and all that it brings, including a leading health system. There's lots of good places to live in and around Cville. Just depends on budget. You’ll find less expensive housing east, west and south of town.

Living in Charlottesville has became so expensive! Someone has to pay to maintain all the illegal aliens who live here!

C’ville is nice, but be careful where you live. I don’t like the traffic, but I LOVE that most of my food is grown 30 minutes from where I live. I dislike the parking situation, but I love to drive in the city. People are super nice, it’s beautiful and many, many parks. I’ve carved out a nice little life for myself here. At the moment, it’s expensive. Ooooo the trees are so TALL! Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the comment @tzippi! Yes, parking can be a problem, particularly certain locations in the city! So happy you have made a home here! Love the trees as well!

I am considering moving to Charlottesville for various reasons. I have 2 major concerns. I am concerned about the train through c'ville. I have heard that there is some kind of agreement with the railroad companies to not sound horns within the town borders, however, this does not sound right. There is no sort of "gentlemen's agreement" when it comes to the Federal Railroad Administration. I would be afraid of a change down the road. The most popularly used horn right now (the K5LA) is not conducive to peaceful living within about a 2 mile radius if you ask me. Also, I am concerned about lawn maintenance appliances. Just about every single property where I live uses a company to do their lawn/outside. Super noisy, high-polluting appliances have become the norm. It's maddening. Is Charlottesville the same? Your honest assessment would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hey @jojofandango7344, I know people that live right next to the train tracks and barely hear it. I can't see the city or the county changing those ordinances. As for maintenance, largely what you're speaking about is in HOA areas. Fortunately the work they do is only for a day once or twice a month. There are still a large number of properties without HOAs that can be found in the surrounding counties.

@@TomWoolfolkRealEstate5281 Thank you for your reply. I am still considering my options going forward. I lived in Charlottesville as a student in the late 80's. I know that the area has changed significantly. I will have to visit to assess if it might be right for me. Thanks again.

Did the input prongs(inlet), on the transfer switch come assembled, or did you have to wire it up? And if you had to wire it, did it come with the wire etc...Thanks.
