I don't think children should watch movies like this, it could really upset them. Many children have tender, kind and sensitive hearts and this might be too sad, and possibly too scary for kids.

I really hope you're being sarcastic here. If not, then it's clear that you haven't watched any Don Bluth, Brad Bird, or Studio Ghibli movies, or any kid's movies from the 80's or 90's

@nathannelson6843 Isolating and infantilizing children, as well as making them believe everything is rainbows and unicorns, until they grow up and reality hits them like a truck, is not empathy: that's paternalism

@@MorganKing95 Some children can become violent if exposed to too much violent content. There comes an appropriate time and age for every lesson we teach our kids, especially the hard ones. I really don't see how I'm isolating them or demonstrating paternalism. I could see older kids potentially watching such films, but little kids are very sensitive. If a child was eight years old or younger, you wouldn't show them something that could traumatize them.

@nathannelson6843 Oh please, this whole "movies, TV-shows, and video games make kids violent" theory has been studied for almost a century now and been disproven multiple times. Correlation is not the same as causality Also, my cousin grew up with this show and was below the age of 8, and he turned out fine: he's one of the most positive and friendly people you can meet, and he has a partner and a child and continues to be incredibly friendly and positive. I didn't care for this show, mainly because I found it boring and because my country dubbed it in a very specific dialect that didn't appeal to me. However, I watched "The Land Before Time", "Pinocchio", "The Lion King", "ET", "Tintin" (the animated series), "Harry Potter", and "Digimon" several times as a kid, in addition to playing Tekken, and I've turned out fine too. Not to mention how much I watched "The Incredibles" without realizing how disturbing that movie can be (same with "Lilo & Stitch"). It's really only parents who become disturbed and paranoid by these movies and shows, while kids mainly focus on the aesthetics, and way too many parents don't realize that infantilization is harmful. Compare me to my cousins on my father's side, whose mom isolated them for several years and only wanted them to watch something akin to Barney the Dinosaur, and wouldn't even let them watch the news. Heck, she wouldn't even let them have their own bedrooms. The result? They were afraid to be away from their mom for one weekend even in their teens, and it was only when they turned 18 that they started to become independent

Loved this show as a child. My parents took me and my brothers to Selfridges at Xmas to see Santa. Each year where you queued had a theme. The one I remember still was Farthing Wood. It showed the journey. Still, it was a brutal series but my parents never stopped us watching it

You missed the other white deer death where fox, vixen, speedy, whistler, hare and badger are looking at him in the daylight and he has blood on his neck. You also missed when the male and female blue fox offspring of lady blue and scareface are shot after killing chickens which fox and vixen then steal. Not sure if the dead winter crayfish and dead fish whistler brings at the start of spring count…

Animation took kids seriously back in the 80's and 90's, unlike today, where everything has to be rainbows and unicorns because "Oh no, we can't have kids learn about how the real world works until it hits them like a truck"

This show does NOT screw around. I think the hare's death messed me up the most. Her visceral screams of terror, her family unable to do anything but watch futilely call for help, and the fact that Scarface didn't even bother to kill her right then and there. He made her family watch as she screamed and struggled before biting down hard on her and taking her away. That's not predatory instinct. That's just evil. Badger's death got me too, but not for the same reason. It's because it felt so real and relatable. As someone who lost his grandparents to deterioration into senility and death, and having two beloved family pets be put down due to old age or weakness, Badger's death felt the most personal to me. Unlike with the hare, it doesn't shake me up or anger me, but it does depress me once in a while. Because when I first saw this, I didn't know that I'd be looking at my own future. R.I.P. Gram, Mimi, Grandpa, Sheba and Spookie. I miss you all so much.

I watched it at around 6 years old but I don't have "traumatic" memories regarding it - the exact opposite, the ahow dared to show the animal world as is, without sensationalizing anything. Life's cruel and unfair, the only thing one can do is to push forward or perish. It's a good lesson.

Fvck me sideways. I remember being read this at primary school in chapters, aged 8. I found it so boring, I secretly read a Ray Bradbury novel under the desk, preferring a ‘scary’ book. If I had actually paid attention and not been such a snob, I would have realised how visceral, tragic and heart breaking the story actually was. In this way, I am glad I was distracted. It makes ‘The Halloween Tree’ look like a cake-walk in comparison.
