You missed a major there of the “wait”. It’s spend history. You’ll never get a call unless you have spend history/ relationships AND patience. Set aside a lucky few.

I am going to respectively disagree with the premise of the Rolex AD wait list, without being disagreeable. If you walk into a Rolex AD to get on a "wait list", you are being led astray by the AD. First, the list you are getting on is called a "Registration of Interest". The AD takes your name and writes down which watches you expressed an interest in from the visit. This info goes into a database at the AD only. This is NOT a FIFO (1st in 1st out) list. Nor is the AD obligated to ever call you. Secondly, the AD's allocate the most popular steel sport models to their best paying customers. So most of the time you need to establish a spend history with the AD-- also called "establishing a relationship with your AD". Many times this is called "climbing the ladder", where you buy watches or jewelry you don't really care to wear, and the Client Representative keeps offering you more stuff to spend your dollars on before you will get the sports steel model of your choice. You may get a watch at anytime as you spend more to establish the relationship. P.S.: Before anyone comments about walking into a AD and walking out with the Rolex they wanted on their wrist, I know there are a lucky few who do get a Rolex sports steel model. If you are a walk-in today, expect to be offered a precious metal watch, or a DateJust 41. This is why if you only want to buy a specific model without playing the "Pandemic Games" at the AD, many just go to the gray market and pay market price without all of the hassles at the AD. Several Rolex models are actually selling below Rolex retail price in unworn condition, so do your research to see if you can save money. Most importantly, only buy from a trusted gray market dealer! I hope my advice helps some first time Rolex buyers.
