Why do these „Flemish“ vocalists in a group that is titled in French sound like French people mispronouncing German?
@mudlines
@mudlines 3 жыл бұрын
a twist of fate, i guess? German is, in fact, our 4th language. So if there slips in a bit of mispronounciation, please be mild with your judgement. We are flemish guys, second language French, third language English, and fourth is German. How's your fourth language, Ernst? 😁

I don't believe in guilt by association, so this song is only true to its true intent, it has not been "burnt" by the Nazis.
@mudlines
@mudlines 4 жыл бұрын
i truely believe there are layers here. There's the intent of the songwriter, the intent of the singer, but you can't deny there's intent of the listener too. And more than once it has been proven that songs like this, frequently sung and performed in a specific -nazi- context, have me concerned that the intent of the band -Les Voix Perdues, all about spreading the peaceful and hopeful message- gets lost in the ears of listeners who will want to hear different messages. Of course we can't control that, therefore: a concern. It's a bit like poetry. The writer must accept the fact that once the words have been written, the reader will decide how he will read it. And it doesn't mean the writer will always be pleased with that interpretation. Thx for commenting!

The German soldier on the right looks zombified because of his eyes. That gave me the idea of a WWI-era zombie apocalypse setting where a series of forts on the Rhine are the only thing holding back inneumerable hordes of former French, German and Benelux zombies. This would be the theme music.
@mudlines
@mudlines 6 жыл бұрын
as flattered as we are, we would feel a bit awkward to see our music turn up in a zombie flick.. LOL... also, zombieflicks require a bit more ... sexy action music...
@zacky1010
@zacky1010 6 жыл бұрын
A great shame. I really liked that idea. I was thinking that the Wermacht/Heer (delete as appropriate) would sing this to attract zombies to cull. The subdued tone and lack of instruments also paint a very bleak picture of the world, for extra points, though it's likely intended for a conventional Great War atmosphere.

we took it into our setlist to ensure the message that all sides in war are losing sides. Just simple sons and fathers who didn't ask to be at the frontline. Fritz and Tommy. We honor the men who gave their life for freedom, and remember those who fell for the lie that one nation should be greater then the other...

It isn't a German war song from WW1, it's a German patriotic song written in 1840 because of the Rhine crisis!

true. our intention was to capture the songs that had been part of the social and military heritage of WW1, from all sides of the frontline. This song is dated older, but had been a part of WW1 and WW2 heritage. As many songs do. But; true.
