This Anti-Stratfordian stuff comes across to me like rich people panicking trying to maintain the illusion that they have all that wealth because they're inherently better than ~the common folk, and Emmerich comes across like a guy desperate to prove that he's successful because he's just that talented and the fact that he comes from money has nothing to do with it

3 years later I realized I did not continue to comment on these like I did the last two vids in this series so I shall continue now because these two <3 <3 <3 (I did finish the series back then! I just got busy and self-conscious at my own comments lmao) so here ep 3 reactions: - gotta love the "hey man! buddy!" bro tone to start to diffuse awkwardness to only cause more awkwardness lmao oren, how I've missed thee - "haven't really seen too many of the sights" made me lol because of milwaukee's whole two (2) sights to see (I kid, kinda, I'm allowed to make fun of my hometown) - drew immediately cutting to the chase "why did you call me" ouch - "let's be real... we were barely jocks" I audibly snorted - viola using any pronouns made me so happy. a character after my own heart throughout 12gw and even merely in mention here ugh <3 <3 <3 and oren calling them "vi" help it sounded so natural and full of love ?? I'm fragile best friendship ever - drew being visibly uncomfy at the beginning and acting as if he was trying to end the call quickly.... only to multiple times linger quietly during the lulls to keep the convo going... my god why does queer pining hit every time - "I think about you a lot" "why" "it's hard not to" I'M CLAWING MY FACE oFF - five years breaks my heart. the pain of holding a flame that long :( then drew saying "...that's a lot" YOU'RE TELLING ME - if there's one thing oren is always going to be, it's a bumbling mess, and I love that for him <3 - drew saying "I'm gonna go" like ten times and refusing to go. now *I'm* the mess ugh they're everything. moment of silence for all the shows/movies i consumed solely through tumblr gifsets lol also, corporate-made gifs are always hideous. They're usually extremely short and have big, stylized text that's really obnoxious. I think the genre conventions around tumblr gifsets were consistent across high-quality gifs, regardless of the creator, and they really allowed the viewer to appreciate the content without getting distracted by the format. the downsides of social media companies catering more and more to mobile users. Back In My Day we scrolled uphill through the snow both ways past gifsets that would never load.

I love "old school" tumblr gifsets! I have the tendency to forget all but the main events of a show or movie after it's over, so seeing themes and scenes presented in gifsets really help them stick out in my mind and help me remember my favorite pieces of media better. I really appreciate all the time and dedication people put into making them look good, and cherish all the things I decided to watch because I kept seeing cool looking gifsets on my dash. Can't believe corporations are making gifsets now :/ but it does draw attention to a writing quirk I keep coming across where it seems like some new shows and movies write lines solely so they can be used as reaction gifs and are not afraid so sacrifice the flow of the dialogue to do so.

I am one of those "jif" weirdoes, but I'm old, so I get it. I was never able to make them myself, but my sister ran a massive Rhett and Link blog where she would do three gifsets a day based on the new GMM episodes. It was SO much work. Truly the unsung heroes of the internet are the gifmakers, there will be a blessing upon your houses.

Commenting later than I should’ve to tell you I’m glad to see this video made and little 11 year old me is happy to see this made. At the time I saw the film and despised it for its book inaccuracies, particularly making St Aggies and the Pure Ones and I’m realizing now why that was so important! Escaping St Aggies only to realize there’s a threat bigger than slavery built on the same ideals (hint hint) is utterly terrifying. It’s not just one bad secret place…it’s part of all of owl culture. And thus the reveal that his brother has become metal beak is all the more horrifying, showing how radicalization of those you love can happen in the background and you might not know until it’s too late. Wait is the Soren arc just the prequels but good? Anyway great vid!

This is my first time learning anything about these books or this movie and the concept of shoving 6 books into one movie sounds so chaotic, totally makes sense how the movie would be irritating to watch after being invested in such a detailed and complex story!
@ggrarl2 жыл бұрын
It warms my heart to see someone talking about the film that actually read the books. They really did make this adaptation rather generic, but as you said, at least it looks pretty. I imagine if one made a video of everything they changed, it would be about an hour long. For example, the Metal Beak they invented for the film (real name Surtr) is a greater sooty owl, which were the 2nd lowest on the ladder of Pure Ones, and thus would never be allowed in a high position of power. Also, there's a reference to the Battle of Thermopylae (300 that is) in the 15th Ga'Hoole book when Coryn says, "Then we shall fight you in the shade!"
