Ok - here's a funny one. I bumped into Paul at Jamberoo - we were both there with our families- I thanked him for the entertainment and fun; he was caught off guard- he didn't expect to be recognised in oversized boardie's etc - but as we were dressed the sane - it was ok! Two middled aged men, with their kids at a family fun park. Isn't lie strange.

My Great Great Great Grandfather was transported from Cork to Sydney Town in 1818, on the prison ship Martha. He died in 1857 after earning his freedom and running a farm on the Hawkesbury river to feed Sydney Town. His “crime” was stealing a cow to feed his family in Enniskillen. I am proud to be his descendent, and I’m proud of my Irish Catholic “convict” ancestry. James Smith, my GGG grandfather.

Brilliant, as usual. I remember watching this on "The Big Gig" back in the day. This song has additional pathos and meaning for Irish-Australians, such as myself, Paul and Tim. There is the meaning behind "The Auld Triangle" insofar as for the Irish convicts, but there is additional meaning in the part about Brendan Behan. He was one of Ireland's greatest poets and writers. He was the voice of Ireland's workers and downtrodden. His funeral is considered to be the third-largest in Irish history, after those of Michael Collins and Charles Stewart Parnell, which speaks volumes about his place in Irish culture. Here's the original "Lament for Brendan Behan", sung by the Clancy Brothers. :kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnjbXoevaL-sbKc
