Almost bought a TR7 in my teens in the late 70’S but a rust bucket. That was a close call would have been a money pit.

Beautiful car. I would prefer a sportier circle track cam and more masculine exhaust. BTW how is that car passing smog in CA???

I had a TR6 that snapped an axil. Scared the crap out of me as the left rear wheel and assembly went whizzing by my head. Ford V8? Sounds great but TR6 axil assembly will not take the stress.

If there ever was a car that needed a small block V8 its the TR6. Super cool car. Just underpowered. Buddy had a new one in 1976. Yes, I am that old. And yes, gorgeous wheels. And LOVE the stupid bumper Zit delete. Hideous abomination.

I owned a 68 1/2 TR 250. British Racing Green. Those cars were a TR4A body style with Triumps first 6 cylinder. It had a bigger transmission to handle the 6 cylinder. Fun little car. The next year I believe they came out with the TR 6

One thing that the original TR6 had going for it over a conversion like this was the unmistakable "note" of the motor and exhaust.

If British Leyland had only done this to the TR6 like they did with the Sunbeam Tiger and AC Cobra they would still be in business. I have owned a TR3A, TR3B, and an Austin-Healy 100 which had a 6-cylinder engine like the TR6. While it was pleasant to drive, there is nothing like power in a small car to make it more fun. The same thing with the early Datsun 240Z which also had a straight 6 in it. There was actually a company that did V8 conversions for them and it made it a true sports car. To make it a truly reliable car, the entire Lucas electrical system would have to be replaced and the British suspension, both were terrible.

A Ford 302 V8 weighs 500 Pounds making the car nose heavy. How well it handles is questionable. The stock Front Suspension was never great to begin with, and by adding additional weight only worsens it. Depending on the additional HP and Torque, the Rear Differential Support Mounting was weak on TR6's and fairly easy to rip one of the Support Bolts from the carrier. How much was the Cooling System Capacity increased ? The Transmissions are not very strong to handle the additional power. Photos that illustrate a vehicle without any information or specifications of all the mods, are fairly worthless.

@johnjones928 2 ай бұрын
A "stock" 302 weighs that much, a later 5.0 roller weighs about the same as the Triumph 6, add aluminum heads, intake, pulleys and shorty headers and you're 60 lbs lighter, Replace the stock gearbox with a BW/Tremec T5 (which weighs 35 lbs less than a Triumph O.D. box) and power transfer isn't a problem. The rest can be beefed up with a welder and steel gussets.

@@johnjones928 Why aren't there any performance figures compared with a TR6 Engine equipped with Triple Weber Carburetors, 50" Thousand Cylinder Head Shaving and a 3/4 Camshaft Grind ?
@johnjones928

@@emilefouquet9005 The mildest aluminum cylinder heads for a 5.0 are Ford Performance GT40X turbo swirls, with a mild roller cam, high rise dual plane intake, 600 CFM carb and dual exhaust you're talking around 350-375 crank hp with a good tune.

Delightfully succinct and very well edited video covering such an endeavor. Had my attention peaked when I noticed the a.n. plumbing fwd on the driver's side bank. Not really relevant but hopefully you have a vintage 289 as the base for your mill's build replete with a crank-scraper and a dry sump system! NICE job on the transplant, too, sir!!
