how thick is the material you used for the hands?
@ReeseCustoms3 күн бұрын
I don't remeber exactly, it was really thin. Maybe 1/16" or thinner.

It does appear to be one of the best jigs. But as a wood worker, building that jig wouldn't take more than 30 minutes. Save $70 and teach your subscribers a fun and very easy project. Ps, 30 minutes is if you have a donor board for the hole line up already
@ReeseCustoms3 күн бұрын
I considered doing that, and foot what Rockler wants for theirs, I would have, but by the time I laid everything out, bought a drill bit to fit, routed plywood to make a means of making it adjustable, or either purchasing extruded aluminum, etc, it made more sense to buy this. Now I could offer laser cut acrylic templates of just the hole pattern for sale for anyone wanting to make their own... that's an idea.

I've been a pro furniture maker for over 50 years doing mostly handmade reproductions for clients. Yellow Pine is probably 60% of what I use and it's made me a secure living for all of those years. 90% of my work is done with hand tools. Some tips for you using yellow pine. Don't use oil stains, use alcohol dyes and Shellacs. Don't sand yellow pie with a sander, use a hand plane and take light passes with it. I could have done each of those side panels ready for finish never using sand paper in about 15-20 minutes and they would be smooth as silk. Sanding knocks out the soft grain where a hand plane and card scraper slices. Nice project and thanks for sharing your video.

I have gotten a lot of emails requesting dimensions for the dividers, so i thought it would be best to put them here: The larger piece is 27.125 wide at the top by 11.5 tall. It tapers down to 24.5 inches at the bottom, if you measure from where the notches are cut out. The notches are cut .36 inches inward, and .78 inches high. The shorter piece is 16.89 inches wide by 11.5 inches tall, it tapers down to 14.5 wide at the bottom, notch to notch, like the other one, and of course the notches are the same. The slots where they go together will just depend on what thickness material you use.

When flat can add another lighter(light silver/white) or darker(deep black) color to the deeper parts. Then sand the entire thing flat to sharpen it up, deep spots would then not show. Nice and NICE again as does look darn cool.

I've used dial rod before and I definitely had the same grain and I was able to get it pretty much unnoticeable, Thank The Lord bc this was a very very well off customer and he was unhappy that I drilled a hole into the wrong location in his mohagany finished staircase by I pretty much eyeballed everything and it worked really well. I restained it and everything afterwards too, of course but yes I'd say this is the best method for sure

Make a jig yourself. Takes 1 hour at most, and use a plunge router. Simple, fast , repeatable and cheap
@jenniferadair10055 ай бұрын
I'm in a little bit of a weird situation of needing to add essentially a third row of holes down the center of a 12" shelf. Would there be a way to accomplish that with this jig?
@ReeseCustoms5 ай бұрын
Yes, ypu could take the bottom stop off of one side of the acrylic template, amd set it to stop in the center of your panel. So one edge would align the jig up, and you'd be drilling holes along one edge, then the center.
@darren-garden5 ай бұрын
The stops are nothing to do with the stepper motors. I had the same issue, I disconnected all the steppers and the spots where it stops were still there. I adjusted the eccentric adjusters for the guide wheels and it solved it.

I'm sure the customer was happy, and they'll never need to tune this baby! One comment, usually the word "restoration" means bringing something back to its original condition, which is nowhere near what you did. Just saying.
@ReeseCustoms5 ай бұрын
Thank you! I struggled with how to phrase it for the video. Restoration for the outside seems like the right word, but not for the inside. In the car world I'd call this a "restomod"

We have a TV cabinet. It has one fixed shelf at the bottom. We want to put adjustable shelves in that space. The problem is that the back board at the rear of the cabinet is attached. How do you attach the tool to drill the rear holes if the tool cannot attach to the back of the board?
@ReeseCustoms6 ай бұрын
I used this in a similar situation. What I did was unscrew the plexiglass part, and hold it in place, drill the lowest hole you want, and put the stopper/alignment piece in, then drill the highest hole you want and put the other stopper/alignment piece in. Those will hold it steady, so then you can drill all of the rest of the holes. Hopefully that makes sense.

Looks really cool. I was looking at reviews and how to use the kreg one I bought probably 7 years ago... and finally cracked open the package. I came across this video. Of course, now the link you provided is no longer available. But something to think about down the road. Do the plastic holes have tear out problems?

All that is next. I just wanted to see if it ran. It was free, and I really didn't want to spend anything on it if it wouldn't run, so now that it does, I'll actually go through everything and get it all right. When I checked the oil in the very beginning of the video, it looked brand new, so I knew it was safe to run with that oil in it, but I'm not leaving it long term.
