Portland may of had a chance if they could tackle. I don't recall if they tackled poorly when they play us back in 1988. I know we were up 29-0 at the half before we fell apart in the second half and lost 43-29. Portland had the very big DL across the board. Probably the biggest I ever played against. #54 Napierkowski was probably 6'6" 275 pounds. I was 6'4" 290 pounds and he was definitely taller than me. He played LF DE and I was the RT on offense. He had great feet and exceptional length for leverage. Season of 1987 I put Napierkowski out of the game when I drove him over a pile and he hurt his ankle.

Okay I play RT offensive tackle at Sacramento state who happen to play the Bison the week before in the final four. We had a balanced offense like Portland but our stats were greater. Sac state led the nation in total offense with ND second in comparison. ND decided to blitz us relentlessly and that had an effect that caused more turnovers than we had all season. Nonetheless, we had some big plays as our speed at the receiver was for superior to ND secondary. At RT the only defender who gave me some trouble was Phil Hansen who wore jersey number 90. Hansen had great feet and length to go with it. He wasn't the most physical defender I had experienced during my time at Sac. However, it was difficult to get my hands on him but he gave up a lot of ground to avoid me. He had two sacks on my side but again the blitz caused delay in our QB stepping and getting rid of the ball. It's an easy sack if our QB is standing where I don't expect him to be. All other DL got thoroughly dominated every time they were in front of me. When I went second level I was in Byers (#58) lap before he could raise a cleat. To be fair I heard Byers was dealing with a knee injury for the game previous and since I played with a RT knee injury all year, I am able to relate to that issue; nevertheless, I had zero problems blocking him. I definitely played better than Portland's RT. He had no feet and not great length to help him to get his hands on the DE. Unfortunately we lost the game in Fargo on a cold day in November. The score was 40 to 20. Stopping the triple was difficult especially since they were the only triple we faced all season. ND was an extremely physical team on the OL. I was impressed with their aggressiveness and precision for which they performed. They deserved to be the national champions in 1988 without a doubt. They had a great team, great athletes, great coaching, and played as a unit with precision and speed.

Inspiration for my short from 1988 SSK game where Bentrim ran an awesome QB draw. Unfortunately #CFL kept him down but could not keep dual threat great Rickey Foggie down a few years later. Was one of John Candy's favs #SCTV #NDSU #UniversityMinnesotaTwinCities

0:15 Great upload, was at game. Ha Dana nice reference #forsolong #rso #113 #tragedy #andygibb #05231977 #66CV191699 #WindsorGreen #villagepeople MN. At NDSU that was year where during winter you could tell if the air temp was above 0 is it would be snowing. Knew the guy who tried to unsuccessfully take down goal post after game. Agree not appropriate use of goal post tear down. Either was #Iowa #bigten #big14plus trying to tear down goal post while playing in the dome especially if boosters do not establish great relationship with grounds crew as they could have backed up truck to the "we like it here" entrance and have direct access to 35W. #marnie #fsn #msc. Funny thing as I later owned title to the MN property referenced in this vid, which MN Supreme Court hired a licensed title agent to in 2018 to commit fraud where agent was immune #IOLTAfraud.😊 This must still be the era where KZbin LLC capped vids at 10min as I came across same issue using same platform to sell my old GMC Motorhome 2010.

It's odd to listen to this 2011 broadcast in 2019 and not hear them expounding on "the Bison dynasty" which was only in it's beginning stages at this point. Brock Jensen's record at the start of this game was 16-4. Could anyone have imagined what would ultimately transpire from this point on? Maybe Nostradamus, has anyone checked?
@LowkeyUzi26142 жыл бұрын
Yeah, at this point in time Georgia southern was the best dynasty ever at the fcs level. Crazy how they've been gone since 2014 and still are in 2nd place title wise.

This was the first year that showed a glimpse of what was to come in the near future, with the Sioux winning 9 of the last 11 Nickel Trophy games ever played (1993-2003). This was the day when I first got hope that NDSU's reign of terror was near the end.

Yeah, they've stacked the deck so ridiculously in their favor. It's to the point now where the entire I-AA division is uninteresting because we know who's going to win the national championship every year, and their average margin of victory seems to be in the 20 point range. I mean, what is even the point anymore? I would think that it has to get boring when every game is such an easy win like it is for that team. Essentially, they're like a middle of the pack varsity team playing a JV schedule. You'd think they should move up but they seem happier being the big fish in a small pond. At any rate, they have ruined I-AA for everybody else.

NDSU won it all in 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1990. Troy had a good team here. They deserved to win.

Do you feel this is one of NDSU's better teams at the DII level. I know they absolutely destroyed my alma matter(St Cloud St) 62-3 in mid-October at Decotah Field that season.

What they are revering to with the Northern Colorado non game is that the games of November 2nd(halloween weekend) across the NCC were canceled due to the infamous Halloween Blizzard across the Upper Midwest that weekend.

As you watch this game, it reminds you of how financially challenged DII athletics were during this time. I believe the University of North Alabama band was playing the fight song for USD and NDSU and doing the halftime show. because the bands couldn't travel. The Harlon Hill celebration for Jeff Bentrim was a lot of fun. The NDSU fans always made hosting the game fun. They always liked to be sociable and have a good time. And believe me, we had some bad experiences with some visiting teams.

I attended this game as a 16 year North Alabama fan. I had a great time during the trip, and found out that the NDSU fan base were some of the friendliest and most fun people I ever met in my life. As a matter of fact, I kept in touch with some of the guys and gals I met at this game, and when the game moved to Florence, AL the next year, we showed them a large time before the 86 championship game. And that Bison team was probably one of the best to ever play in Division II. All we could do was watch and hope we didn't lose by 50. They were that much better than our guys. Didn't NDSU win 3-4 in a row during that time?
@christhornton82195 ай бұрын
If I'm thinking correctly, they won this one in '85, then the first one in Florence in '86. I was at the '86 game. It was North Dakota St vs South Dakota. Man, it was freezing that day, high of 40 with a strong north wind.. But, the fans of the Dakota teams were in shorts and tee shirts. No team won three in a row until us- North Alabama did it in 93-95.
