The USA edition of Book of Blessings has “1828 This order is not intended for the institution of readers by the bishop who uses the rite contained in the Roman Pontifical.” There are clearly two different ceremonies. One makes someone an “instituted reader” the other does not. Perhaps reading the 1972 Motu Proprio of Saint Paul VI “Ministeria quaedam” would be helpful. It created the ministry of instituted lector. Regarding catechists the Book of Blessings was published before Pope Francis created “instituted catechists”. He wrote “I establish the lay ministry of Catechist” in Antiquum Ministerium of 10 May 2021.

Thank you for your reply, yes I’m aware of that note but it has understood within the totality of the rite. The note is not intending to give us a yes or no answer the question I proposed, which was can the rites used in the book of blessings service permanent institutions, the pastor and people desire that they do? In the totality of the rite the parish lectors receive everything, in terms of grace and gifts of the spirit that the official instituted seminary lector does, it even allows for handing over of the Bible or lectionary. Perhaps the strongest argument comes from a sense of the faithful itself. In the global East and the Latin Rite the so-called temporary ministers are not considered temporary but instituted ministers. Without a shadow of a doubt, the ministry of catechist is on par with the other two official Roman instituted ministries, even before the recent letter by Pope Francis. Quite telling that even Francis/the church of Rome borrowed language and actually based its own right of catechist institution on the local catechist institution from the book of blessings. Yes they are different than seminarian lectors blessed by the Roman rite but that difference I hope may have more to do with the litigious nature of church office than it does with the spiritual reality. In fact the whole situation could readily be resolved by understanding the parish lectors as local instituted ministers in accordance with Pope Paul the sixth own intention. "In addition to the offices universal in the Latin Church, the conferences of bishops may request others of the Apostolic See, if they judge the establishment of such offices in their region to be necessary or very useful because of special reasons. To these belong, for example, the ministries of porter, exorcist and catechist,5 as well as others to be conferred on those who are dedicated to works of charity, where this ministry had not been assigned to deacons”

I started out as No, and the more I research the more I am No. One man who stood next to the PM when he announced the referendum wording is Mr Thomas Mayo who sits on the PM's Referendum Working Group which drafted the referendum question. Mayo published his book titled "The Voice to Parliament Handbook". His signature is on the Uluru Statement and he has spent 18 months travelling around Australia trying to talk Australians into changing the Constitution to include the Voice. He is a union official and self-described “militant” on record as saying the Voice will “punish politicians”, “abolish colonialist institutions” and “pay the rent, pay reparations and compensation”. Rather than the Voice being the “inspiring and unifying Australian moment” and "modest request" described by the PM, Mr Mayo told a Communist conference “there is nothing that we can do that is more powerful than building a first nations’ Voice, a black institution, a black political force to be reckoned with”. At a 2021 "Invasion Day" protest he described “the powers that be” as “murderers”, and said he was “sick of governments not listening to our voice” so planned “to use the rulebook of the nation to force them”. At Black Lives Matter protests and other addresses he reveals the Voice’s radical origins in the Search Foundation which describes itself as the “successor organisation of the Communist Party of Australia”. Here's a quick summary on Mayo- kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqa2hK2vndtqfdk

It starts with me.. I am responsible for what I have done knowingly or not knowingly. God is a shield, he can protect. but I am responsible for my actions and how they impact everything around me. If the buck stops here, then I myself am responsible for what I have done or not done. If everyone becomes responsible for their own actions and are accountable to everyone then it is acceptable to know what you do today or tomorrow is what you have created. Don't blame God for destruction of our world.. It's our own doing.

I am pleased that the Brisbane archdiocese is encouraging people to become instituted ministers. I made a video about how an instituted lector is different to other lay readers, comparing them to deacons. Vestments. The Deacon has special vestments that distinguish him from others in the ceremony. He wears a stole, as a sash, while the Priest wears it a different way. He wears a vestment called the dalmatic, different to the chasuble that a Priest wears. An instituted lector is required to wear vestments, at some Masses, as explained in the Introduction to the Lectionary for Mass, n. 54: “During the celebration of Mass with a congregation a second priest, a deacon and an instituted reader must wear the distinctive vestment of their office when they go to the lectern to read the word of God. Those who carry out the ministry of reader just for the occasion or even regularly but without institution may go to the lectern in ordinary attire that is in keeping with local custom.” Not all Masses have a congregation. But for those Masses that do, the instituted lector must wear vestments. Being in the sanctuary. A deacon will be in the entrance procession at Mass and then remain in the sanctuary. He would not sit in the pews with the congregation. Similarly an instituted lector is to have a place in the sanctuary with the other ministers, as it say in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, n. 195, the instituted lector is clearly required to be in the sanctuary for the whole of Mass. It describes the entrance procession and concludes with “Then the reader takes his own place in the sanctuary with the other ministers.” It is clear from the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, n. 99, that this is a description of the instituted lector’s function. What is the sanctuary? This part of the General Instruction of the Roman Missal explains it, from n. 295: “The sanctuary is the place where the altar stands, the Word of God is proclaimed, and the Priest, the Deacon, and the other ministers exercise their functions. Is should be appropriately marked off from the body of the church either by its being somewhat elevated or by a particular structure and ornamentation.”

I understand what you’re trying to do it’s a good thing but I think it’s unfair to suggest that parish lectors are not truly instituted ministers. First up is not at all clear that the blessings in the book of blessings are not intended to be institutions. In case of the blessing of the catechist in the book of blessings is frankly very clear that this is an instituted ministry just as much as lectors and acolytes/sub deacons. In the case of the liturgy for the blessing of the altar servers and sacristans outside of Mass the preferred liturgy reading makes it clear that the ministry the persons are called to is prefigured by the ministry of the Levites in the Old Testament. That hardly sounds like something provisional and temporary. Likewise the United States the bishops have a requirement that is rarely enforced, that there be one server at every mass and it’s hardly practical to have an instituted acolyte/sub deacon at every mass. Again which makes the ministry altar server seem less provisional, and far more necessary and permanent. Likewise in Eastern Latin rite churches they have a very different in the West.

Sat through this homily. Was enthralled until the lecture on Climate. I’m still waiting for you as the head of our holy Catholic Church here stand up against the horrors of abortion in this Godless state of Queensland. Heard no sermon decrying the Qld Government promoting Abortion to birth for whatever reason . This is State sanctioned infanticide . You’ve said nothing and all we get us this. This planet is not dying but our souls are dying because our shepherds only give us these babbling sermons. Stand up for our most vulnerable innocent the unborn! We implore you. But all we get is babble. We call upon the Holy Spirit to give you words to speak out against this atrocity. It’s on the website too that if an abortion fails and a baby is born alive they should not be saved but kept warm and left to die. Where is your care for the human dignity for these babies. Gods stewards are to look after these babies and their mothers in helping them to look after their babies. Appalled at your lack of voice. This is the great lament of the ruined garden and you do nothing.

worth noting that the parallel with the US is not between Australian Aboriginal people and African Americans, but with our two indigenous populations. The American First Nation peoples have suffered in exactly the same ways our Aboriginal peoples have, but remain relatively hidden in the debates around racism.

Thanks to Archbishop Mark, Cynthia and many other clergy, Murri Ministry leaders, Religious and Lay people whose awareness built up over time through experiences, learning, relationships, dialogue and efforts have brought us as an Archdiocese to be able to have this RAP document. May it help us in our local communities to learn our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories beyond what we think we know and their impact upon our contemporary circumstances. To get to know Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live locally but may not be members of our community would be a great connection. Together, with input from our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders and community members, we could make ISMART goals to cultivate respect, relationships and opportunities which will enrich all in faith, hope and love.

Now let's tell you a story about a man named Jesus: A god assaulted, by proxy, inseminated a 'virgin' named Mary, in order to bring his son incarnate into our world. A cowardly action.... Mary and her fiance?, ....Joseph, had to travel to Bethlehem to register for the census. There Mary gave birth to a son of a god.? God put a star in the sky to guide people to the baby? In a dream God told Joseph to take his family to Egypt. Then this God stood by and watched as Herod killed thousands and thousands of babies in Israel in an attempt to kill Jesus. (wow!) As a man, God's son claimed that he was God incarnate: "I am the way, the truth and the life," he said. This man performed many 'miracles'. He healed lots of sick people. He turned water into wine. These miracles prove that he is God? Miracles?? But he was eventually given the death sentence and killed by crucifixion. His body was placed in a tomb. But three days later, the tomb was empty. And the man, alive once again but still with his wounds (so anyone who doubted could see them and touch them), appeared to many people in many places. Then he ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of his god the father almighty, never to be seen again. Today you can have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. You can pray to this man and he will answer your prayers. He will cure your diseases, rescue you from emergencies, help you make important business and family decisions, comfort you in times of worry and grief, etc. This man will also give you eternal life, and if you are good he has a place for you in heaven after you die. The reason we know all this is because, after the man died, four people named Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote accounts of the man's life. Their written attestations are proof of the veracity of this story. This is the story of a Jesus. Do you believe this story? You are Delusional However any debate on this is useless since a god needs to be proven - First.
