Hey Jason! Just happened to get a recommendation to one of your older videos.. liked and subbed to catch up and watch some more. Just curious how the panels are performing. I'm just getting into this Solar thingy, and see that the HQST and Newpowa brands seem to outperform the Renogy and BougeRV brands. Any recommendations for this 60 year old rookie/ newbie? Cant wait to see more of your channel. You make things easy to understand. Be safe

Max output is 27.3A 240 vAC = 6552W (ie more than 6kW) it can be set 120/240 OR 120/120 OR 120/208 3P (with three units). very versatile unit. about 80W idle draw. To get full capacity out of it, per unit, you will need at least 200Ah battey(ies).
@r.b.l.5841 Жыл бұрын
To be clear on the 120-120 output, to get full amperage on a single leg, you jumper L1-L2, either at the inverter or at it's subpanel. BE SURE you are in singel 120 vAC output mode for this, ie A0 will be in the centre of the display - see setting 28. Ian 's solar projects has a very good video on YT on this set up with the MPP 6048

Can this unit be programed to return energy to the grid if i want to? cuz in my country I can give energy back and they would make it valid if i need to use it... this is convenient because i can use the grid as a big battery and have to instal only 1 or 2 batteries in case of an outage.
@r.b.l.5841 Жыл бұрын
No, this unit can not export to the grid. it can get power from the grid and pass this through if the battery/solar are too low/unavailable.

FYI, just being an ex-IT nerd. Typically you load a cabinet (weight wise) from bottom to top. Loved the video, learned somthing. I'm thinking of getting this 6048 and a bank of batteries to charge my e-golf. Thanks for sharing

HOWdy D-I-W-J, ... I received my EG4 LiFePOWER4 6-Battery RACK Pre-ASSEMBLED ... & ALL of my BATTERY & Inverter Connections were M6 Bolts 0.900" long on two Solid 42" long Copper BUS-BARS on each side ... I drilled & fitted LARGE Glands for my 4/0 AWG cables in the bottom REAR of my cabinet & fed the CABLES under the bottom most BATTERY ... Sorry for your LUCK = my Battery RACK from Signature-Solar was absolutely FREE with the purchase of Three Batteries & mine came with very substantial CASTERS already attached to the RACK ... COOP the WiSeNhEiMeR from Richmond, INDIANA ...

Did you see Ian's recommendation to use at least 200 AH of battery power for the 6048. The manual on page 5 says the same thing. 1 - 100ah battery can only provide 4300 watts. If you run a load that exceeds that, the battery will cut out and the inverter will not shut down properly which can damage it.

I jumper( physical wire) L1 with L2 , now charges. If I want sent to a sub panel ( to get 240) what is need ?
@r.b.l.5841 Жыл бұрын
The 6048 has output Gnd, L1 L2 and N. just connect them up (through a breaker) to the subpanel. Be sure to check the ground-N so you don't build a system with ground loop by mistake. The MPP 6048 has two removable ground-N screws inside to remove the bond it does during inverting.

what is #28 setting at. I have same system 1 phase , I can not get system grid tied charge. F72 and a f 88 fault codes... Could use some help.
@r.b.l.5841 Жыл бұрын
For 120 only Setting 28 should be 2A0 - single phase 120 only output. For 120 & 240 Setting 28 should be 2A2 - single phase 120 and 240 volt on L1 and L2 For 120/208 3-phase (need three MPP 6048's in parallel) Setting 28 should be 3P1, 3P3 and 3P3 (one on each inverter) and this will give you 120 & 208 3P - likely not too many people need a 3-phase system, but this model support it. If you are seeing Fault 88 - this is the parallel ID Dip-switch settings, - see page 3 and look up on the diagram part #9 which are the tiny dip-switches on the bottom of the inverter. Also see Page 41 which shows the dip switch settings for one, two or three inverters
@r.b.l.5841 Жыл бұрын
F72 is out of balance - check loads per phase. If you have 120 only output (2A0 in setting 28) then you can jumper L1 to L2 and avoid out of balance issues but only if you don't need 240v)

How Big fuse are you using in "T class"?
@r.b.l.5841 Жыл бұрын
6552W / 48vDC = 136.5A A class T fuse will allow up to x1.5 current for about 30-45 seconds for starting up a motor, or other in-rush current. Use minimum 150A Class T for a single inverter, 250-300 for twin inverters. Be sure the wire you use is sized larger than the current limit of the fuse; 1/0 short cable for 150A, 4/0 for 250A-300A is my recommendation. Fuses protect wires.

Jason - do you know if most of the Porter Cable 20V power tools going to be like that? I like your approach - there really should be a "vendor-agnostic" battery standard so that folks aren't inclined to modify the tool. Much like you, I have a ton of B&D 20V batteries for all my tools but B&D doesn't make a decent 20V nail/staple gun.

Can you run 240 and 120 at the same time?
@r.b.l.5841 Жыл бұрын
Yes you can - with just the one MPP 6048. You can (if you want) also just set it up 120 only, and get full capacity out of the inverter all 120 volt - ie if you don't have any 240 volt loads.

Are all these types of all-in-one units capable of running solar as primary, 2nd battery, 3rd grid?
@andrewt92042 жыл бұрын
Yeah pretty much. 1. You can set to "solar first", where it only uses solar to power the inverter and only uses battery if there isn't enough solar, then switches back to grid when solar is gone so it doesn't drain the battery all the way in case you need it. 2. Then there's "utility first", it uses grid and only uses solar to charge the batteries, but will switch to battery power if grid is lost. 3. There's also "solar back up" mode. Very similar to "solar first" but will use solar and/or battery until the battery is dead before switching back to grid. So if you have way more than enough battery capacity, or don't care about potentially losing reserve battery capacity, use this mode.

Cool. You just saved me from buying their overpriced high amperage charger. I'm going to pick up my second battery tomorrow. (Back in stock - yay!) When I called Signature Solar they said I would need that charger. Now I know I can just use my 6500EX-48 to charge the new battery. I don't have solar panels yet. I'm using this 48 volt server rack battery and 6500 inverter charger as my power outage backup. It has come in handy a couple of times already. I highly recommend them as a backup system for power outages.

Very good explanation and set up. I have a question. I have an inbuilt inverter with charge controller. From your explanation I understand that connection from the panel goes into the charge controller,then from the charger going into the battery then finally into the inverter out to the AC supply. Since I have an inbuilt inverter with a charge controller,what would be my connection from the panel? Would it be connected to the inbuilt inverter with the charge controller then to the battery or from the panel to the inbuilt inverter with the charge controller then to the battery or vice versa? Thank you

TIP.. You can steplessly dim down an under-table bulge and all other hungry electricity consumers with a 5000W dimmer (7, EUR). I run 5 dimmers in parallel on an 850W inverter. Kettle 2.2KW at 150W runs 12 hours a day, so the water is always hot. The room is also nicely heated. 2.5KW washing machine runs in parallel with dimmed to 200...400W. Iron, dishwasher, oven, electric heater, coffee machine, all internal heating are throttled with me. Videos about it on my channel kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3SVoJ-YeKebnpI The inverter stays cool, quiet and the MOSFETs remain intact because extreme current peaks no longer arrive at the inverter. Now every Mini PV Inverter is enough to sell large devices...

Why a sub panel? Isn't this a true hybrid inverter, and you could connect it (with a breaker) into main panel? Considering the same setup to start my system, tough decision between MPP and Growatt but think whole house (and well pump) could be ok with this unit
@andrewt92042 жыл бұрын
If you connect this into your main panel, you would have to have a mains ATS so you don't back feed power to the grid. Certainly an option, but cost several hundred dollars depending on your service size.

I think they want you to ground the door to the cabinet, not the B- buss bar. All batteries have a case ground as well that should be grounded to the case, and then the case needs to be connected to an earth ground rod outside. Hope that helps someone.

eBay's actions deliver the solar panels I ordered this time I know most times they don't deliver it I get goofed and he's a business from around the United States of America I know which doesn't deliver I know Amazon doesn't deliver I know sometimes app store doesn't deliver and I know sometimes Google don't deliver but sometimes I get things a year and a half later after I ordered it or in this case how long is it going to take to get those solar panels. The only thing that does to deliver an app stores is Walmart they're the only ones that guarantee it and they're the only ones that always seem to deliver it when they say they're going to deliver it or if not a little bit sooner.
