Thanks for the video. I have just acquired an SP400, and it looks like it has a carb from a GN400. At 8:47 there is a cover on the right hand side of the carb body - three screws holding it on. What is it / what's underneath it?
@mrPaullau3 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, it is part of the choke mechanism. There is a diaphragm under the cover.

I find that the o ring on the top hat bush is easier to install if you put it on the bush and then drop that over the stantion into the slider and then assemble the rest of the collar and gland nut and install over the top as the o ring is held in-place.

did you use the bmw loom ? i wondered about the electics on this. is the bmw generator a three phase ? what do the two wires that connect to the brushes do & where do they go...thanks
@mrPaullau2 жыл бұрын
Hello James, I made my own loom up from 7 core trailer wire. Yes the BMW alternator is 3 phase. The two wires from the brushes go to the diode board, or if you have one a reg/rec.
@jamesconnors42972 жыл бұрын
@@mrPaullau so if you are starting with made from scratch loom. the three phase wires from the generator would go to the three on a single unit modern reg.rect then plus and minus from reg/rect to the battery.....that df connector ......can it be fed 12v from the igniton when tuned on the feed the rotar 12v ?
@mrPaullau2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesconnors4297 When I did the rewire I didn't touch the charging or ignition circuit only the lighting, handle bar and instrument loom. The new reg/rec will sort the charging side of things.

Hi. Do you have any knowledge of doing this job on a 1975 Ural 650? It is a slightly different setup on my M67 and I am struggling to find anyone who can help me. I have had the forks out 5 times so far after I replaced the fork seals due to a leak. Unfortunately the seals keep sticking to the chrome on the forks. I take the forks apart to free the seals but, after a short time, they stick again.
@mrPaullau2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I only have experience with these fork's.

I think if you machine a groove in the front and back portion of the front crank main bearing surface in the "guitar" you will drastically reduce the surface are of the front main bearing surface. I think that is why other folks have be using a front and rear plate to hold the old seal..
@jimzellmer57892 жыл бұрын
My bad. I forgot hat the Dnepr has ball bearings on the Crank. Was thinking of BMW 247 engines. Good luck with your changes.

Hello, This the first video of a Dnepr with a Beemer engine that actually will help me . I am doing the same using a 1975 r90/6 engine with a Ural (modified) gear box. I am uncertain if I can use the wiring loom of the 1984 Dnepr. The wiring is old and the the color of the wire has faded!! Multimeter with hours of tracing. I was looking for a new harness but can't seem to find one. Anyway great video and thanks Regards Maurice

bought myself an iz49, had problems with gearbox, took it apart and took few months to fix it since i had no knowledge of gearboxes or bikes, took it on a long ride, suddenly no power and the bike just stopped. might have over heated the piston and cylinder. haven't had enough energy to work on it again since i just fixed it :D i'm guessing overheating isn't so weird in these older soviet bikes :D

I did strip the entire assembly. The only serviceable parts are the seals.

You might need to put some argon purge gas inside the pipe with a bleed hole at the other end so internal pressure does not get to high. I saw a few tig welds on stainless steel tubing that looked like that in a factory I worked in. Good Luck.
@mrPaullau3 жыл бұрын
I thought that you only need to purge if you TIG? I think that I sorted it though. My shielding gas was shite.

Normally you should be able to get matching pistons...It may take a bit of back and forth but eventually you should be able to get two matching ones... Just don't mess with them, send them back and ask for a matching pair...

2:04 a copper or aluminum washer and a bolt lock washer must be placed under the bolt, otherwise oil will flow through the thread.
