This is why I’m sticking to Honda and Acura. I had three German vehicles in my life: two BMWs and one Audi and let me tell you… all of them failed at or before 100k miles. The BMW’s got oil leaks and the Audi-the transmission failed at 100k. I got a 2012 Honda civic at 160k miles and no issues. Im buying a 2021 Acura TLX, so I wont be in this shit after one year of owning a car like a bimmer. To hell with German vehicles.

When do you do the hard coolant lines? Only if leaking?
@robsweekendgarage2 ай бұрын
If they haven’t been done - it’s time. The plastic gets very brittle and doesn’t take much for them to break. At this age it’s nearly impossible to remove them without them breaking. If you see blue zip ties around the knock sensors and the hard lines - they’ve never been done. Good time to do the ccv, vanos line, intake gaskets and vacuum lines. Optional is the starter since it’s right there.

In the e46 - the ZF 5speed is much stronger than the Getrag. Makes sense as the higher HP 328/330's all got ZF5's and the the 323/325's all got the Getrag 5speed manual. As far as the automatics, the ZF auto is stronger than the GM auto as well. Most of the hate for the getrag comes from drifters who constantly clutch kick them non-stop.

Love your channel. Can you tell me the name on the strut bar? Also, I'm missing my curtain air bags on my newly acquired 2001 330ci, but there's no airbag light on. Is it possible it was coded out or can the cluster light have been removed? Thanks.
@robsweekendgarage3 ай бұрын
The only markings on the strut bar is Active. No idea if they are a good bar or not. Dusan Strut Works (DS Works) makes some really nice strut bars front and rear for these cars. I’m not sure if you can code out the airbags or not. I would maybe scan the airbag module with INPA to see if there’s any codes. You can also do a cluster test to see if the airbag light works. It’s an LED so really won’t burn out. It should also light up when you first turn the key on.

great video!. side note: the only cars that didn't have the vacuum canister for the muffler flap were the 2000< 323-328i with the single exhaust tip. either way i just delete it and put a plug in on the intake. those flaps rarely work. and are mostly just a source of a vacuum leak

The diamond shaped key on a 323? I always thought those were used on the facelift model. What year is this? Plus, those m52tub engines are my favorite. They run so bloody smooth and dont burn a lot of oil, opposed to the m54 engine. I believe the oil rings on the m52 are better.
@robsweekendgarage4 ай бұрын
@@jornhietbrink870 someone made a new key for it and they used the diamond key. It’s a 2000 323ci A somewhat common solution to the oil drinking of the M54 is to use M52 oil control rings.

Is this kind of failure more common on n52 cars than m54, im starting to get a similar noise on start + glitter in the oil😥. Its ok tho the car was 1500$ and has a 6 speed so its not a total losse.
@robsweekendgarage4 ай бұрын
Rod bearings aren’t really a problem on M54. This car seems to just have been a result of oil change neglect. Just tore down a M54 in my latest video that was run on only 2 quarts of oil. Even with catastrophic engine failure, the rest of the bearings looked fine surprisingly.
