Where did the condyles move? Downward? Forward or Backward? If you use the elastics to close the bite, the condyles move somewhere inevitably. It can be the cause of Temporomandibular disorder in the future with high probability. Nobody shows what's happening in the temporomandibular joints. It is just like you are throwing the kitchen trash into the living room. vice versa.

I didn't see you putting palatal elastics Doc. At the part you said you were losing to much torque on the lateral segment. I only saw lingual button but no elastics.

I have the same problem and overbite

My orthodontist discussed this with me as a teenager and back then I chose canine substitution instead of the Maryland bridges and possibly dental implants later. I simply thought 'Get rid of the big gaps, keep my teeth somewhat natural with minimum operations, minimum expense, that will be good enough.' It was a long treatment, painful at times and cosmetically awful, particularly at that age. The result is not a vast improvement and given the choice again I would definitely choose the bridges/implants. The plus side of closing teeth together at the front was my impacting upper wisdom teeth straightened up and came through of their own accord with no complications. My advice is, if you're going to suffer the treatment you may as well fully commit, choose the bridges/implants route and you will eventually end up with a nice smile.

My in-laws are “missing” teeth. When my daughter’s adult teeth were coming in, her canine teeth weren’t coming in. Family thought she didn’t have them, like everyone else. X-ray showed they were there but no space to move down - palate expander fixed it!

Wholey smokes I had the exact same thing! I had the surgery and dental work done in the mid 80s. I had braces on for 3 years and have had a retainer glued on the back of my bottom teeth for 35 years now. Same retainer too. My 2 front teeth are slightly crooked again because my front tooth gets really weak when straightened. Anyways lol this was so awesome to see. I had never seen anything else like this since my journey.

i had a minor case compared to taht. as a child my 1st teeth remaine in when the second teeth came out. and after there was too little space, it took in the 90s for about 7years to correct it, but it was probably at maximum a way of about 3-5mm to travel. here she took 6months for like 8mm???? could my bones be MUCH MUCH harder?
