I live my Bonafide. It’s not that same one, but it has the same seat and similar boat design. The seat is the most comfortable seat on a kayak I’ve ever used. No backache or sore knees after a long day on the water.

No one ever mentions, although you eluded to set up times, the whole experience with transportation. First off, it is a heavy and awkward (almost) 90 pounds to move while deflated and not as easy to do which is dependent on strength and age (for one person). As far as using it as a portable boat, going out obviously requires loading into your vehicle, unloading at site, inflation (about 35-45 minutes with one electric pump). Then after some time on the water, deflation, rolling it up, lifting and loading it into the vehicle again and driving home. Once home, naturally you have to unload it one more time, for a total of 4X lifting this thing and its motor. You have back issues, I wouldn't recommend. Lastly, the majority of owners of this boat, of which I am one, ultimately will get a trailer solely for the above stated reasons. It is a fun and stable boat. Great honest review, there is a lot to like about it. I do feel by the time you get a 9.9hp motor (many do), the weight of the motor (about 60 lbs for a 5-6 hp, or 95 lbs for a 9.9), you will have spent as much or more than you would have for a used, well equipped 12'-14' boat that already comes with a trailer in most cases. Again, great little boat, but the weigh of everything can just make it less enjoyable to use, hence again, why the majority get a trailer.
@roadtripangler
@roadtripangler Күн бұрын
I agree that setting up and tearing down each time would be more difficult. I transport it fully inflated on my truck rack and throw the motor in the bed or on a trailer so I am dealing with the full set up and honestly, with a cart, I feel it is pretty easy to maneuver. I am not trailering it like a normal boat and can move it around at home and to the water with a kayak cart while fully rigged as I had it in the video. I feel this is the real advantage to this boat and having the ultimate option to store delayed if needed. If you are setting up and tearing down each time and can sacrifice the capacity, something like an inflatable kayak or the FishSup might be a better choice. Great feedback!

I am typically a catch and release angler, however when I do keep fish I go with a cooler bag on the bow! Easy and it comes off quick when I get to the truck!

Jameson what kayak would you recommend for fishing in the marsh? I’m looking at the PWR, Jackson Bite FD, and the Old Town Sportsman PDL 120.
@roadtripangler
@roadtripangler Күн бұрын
Those are all solid options. If you plan to motorize, it would for sure be the PWR. I like how open the floor is without the drive. The Bite is awesome as well but would be more difficult to add the motor. If you were just going to keep it a pedal drive it would probably be the better option. I like the new belt drive and the way the lower unit kicks up without taking up more room in the deck. This is key when you’re shallow and wanting to stand and fish. Hopefully that helps. One more thing. I like to site fish, so I like motoring to my spots and then standing to fish which is why I personally like the PWR. Another great option to consider for motorization is the Nucanoe Pursuit.

Thanks! For sure. It is the right boat for the right situation! I think that is the cool thing about where we are with kayak fishing. So many options to fit different needs. In the old days, can’t believe I am saying that, we just put rod holders on whatever kayak and called it a fishing kayak. Now you can really be picky and dial in what fits you best!

You can buy lazy susans to put between the seat & the storage lids. No big deal. The fwd storage box should be a cooler. I would take the fwd storage box & rotate 180 to open from the rower.

A strap is something I need to get just in case. My kayak is much smaller and it's one you sit inside of. I haven't tried it yet but you'd think a smaller kayak would be harder to get back into.
@roadtripangler

Actually sometimes they are easier unless you’re talking about one that has a really small cockpit like a white water or touring kayak. They take a bit different technique and some times even a friend.

@roadtripangler
@roadtripangler 6 күн бұрын
They could easily carry an adult and a child, but you would have to figure out a seating option. They aren’t “designed” to be tandem so it would just take some thought. I would also say it would depend on the size of the adult and child. I am 225lbs and my son is 8 and probably 70lbs or so. We can do it but he is really getting to the point where for space and comfort I would go with a bigger option

I like the Project M. How did you mount the rotopax and other items. I cant find a molle panel to work. Are you mounting straight into the side of the wall for the recovery boards. Thanks. Once again beautiful.
@roadtripangler
@roadtripangler 8 күн бұрын
Hey! Mine has the track option on the sides and I made a plate out of aluminum to span from one to the other. Bolted it on and then attached the rotopax to it. For the MaxTrax I did the same but they are just attached to the top track bar with the bracket. You can buy their bracket and do the same. There is a Molle panel made to work with Four Wheel’s track spacing. Here is the link to it too: prospeedrack.com/collections/accessories/products/four-wheel-campers-molle-panels?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3kljU7IP6ohOqsB0wNf7F04HskedUylC5thtbDV36qL9jxF1KnF-CQJsU_aem_kt9nIiTsy_zsv3C-E8ac4A Hopefully that helps! So at first I had some around the tailgate. Not the camper but around my truck tailgate. A bit of bulb seal in the areas that needed it took care of 90% of it. I see a little when I am on really bad roads but only around the bottom edge of the gate. I needed my truck to haul stuff so this was my only real option and it had been awesome!

Awesome walk-through! I have a jackplate and powertech on my Heron 16 and i can jack up super high! You definitely have a ton of room to raise your engine. Especially with that stepped transom pushing the water up. One other thing i did was added a cavitation plate on my Tohatsu to hold the water around the prop and help with trim. It acts as an extra tab. Love my Saltmarsh! Wouldn't trade it for anything..
