Can we just stop replacing the original dials… once u do that the entire clocks value is ruined. The dial is what people MOSTLY LOOK AT. kinda just infuriating when ppl replace the dial. That’s not called restoring. That’s ruining the value

We understand that enthusiasts prefer original all the way, but this one already had a face replacement but it didn't look authentic so we replaced it with a more traditional looking one. This can be viewed on our website adelaideclocks.com.au by searching for Item#2470

@@Djsclocks anyone that does replace dials shouldnt even be a repair person. replacing dials just completely ruins the clocks value “oh we wanna make our clocks authentic” THEN KEEP THE OG DIAL💀.

I've recently got a big old spark very similar to this one exceot in rustic original condition. I will keep it in that condition but will stabilise it of course. The bell on mine looks a little bigger i think. Its from a long gone city factory. Just got it working again cleaning decades of city dust and filth from the insides and chucking new wiring into it.

@@piercetheflesh9085 My High School had one of these on an old building and it worked. Noticed recently when I went to vote there’s a smaller newer grey bell below it. So it’s lasted all this time while the replacement will last 5 years lol. I think it was deliberately left on the building. As far as I know, my one is the largest in size.

@coaster4956 yeah right...I wonder why the need was felt to replace it with a newer inferior model? Looking at mine infront of me now there's a few differences with the one featured. Mines all old school red that also covers the green King Pty Ltd badge on the Spark box with "FIRE ALARM" in white over the red painted green badge. The bell has "MAY OATWAY" in block white letters on the also red bell. The bell measures 247mm diameter, the Spark chassis excluding the wall mounts is 340mm in length. Sound similar to yours? *Mine also has a double coil electro magnet running gear as opposed to the single coil

@@piercetheflesh9085 I think the bell lost its ring sound it did sound a bit muffled I remember. But it maybe working and they’ve got 2 bells close to together in front of new building

Definitely made before 1882! Since the dial is painted and early cathedral gong before they made unusual gong in 1882.

Could be for several reasons. First check if theres s silent lever on the mechanism, ensure the heaviest weights are placed on the chime chains or the movement may just require a service.

With the key it requires to be wounded daily. Traditionally back in the day it would be done every morning.
