Hi Jack, I enjoyed watching your video a lot. I have a question for you, as Italian-learning beginner, at 0:29-0:30, you pronounced "Do-lo-mite" or something like that. I would like to understand how this word is actually pronounced as I thought, we pronounce Italian just like we see it. So, it is not "Do-Lo-Me-Te", is it? It is "Do-Lo-Mite" just like you said. isn't it? Please help clarify. Thanks so much. I really like your Italian teaching.
@geniusspeaking13 күн бұрын
Hi mate, thank you for your kind words! Yes practically you pronounce Italian as you read it: vowels only have 7 sounds, so in Italian it is DOLOMITI... it sounds like DO-LO-Mee-Tee... where the last two "I" are short and not stressed... I'll make a short about that, so stay tuned :)

Thank you! Well, I do agree that is not "advanced" in the meaning of "complicated", however Italian grammar textbooks often define the analysis of complex periods as advanced level, or actually intermediate +

I have loved Dante and the Divine Comedy but unfortunately know little Italian but are starting to learn. I was interested in the symbolism you gave to the animals: lust, pride and greed. It makes sense. Thank you for your video. But is Virgil, Plato, Aristotle and Socrates still in Limbo in the inferno? I don't think so. I think they would have progressed to Heaven in the afterlife, after Jesus went and preached to the good souls in Hell after His crucifixion and opened for them, the gates of Heaven.
@geniusspeakingАй бұрын
You're very welcome! Well, as far as I can tell, I do agree with your point fo view: greek and latin poets in the matter of facts they did nothing in their mortal life to deserve the Limbo, nor Hell... however the Divine Comedy was not written from a strictly theological point of view, but to ignite the flame of the Renaissance: in Middle Ages there was the huge drive of considering mortal life only a test of suffering in order to earn access to Heaven... Dante instead wrote the Commedia with the main purpose to encourage humanity to seek happiness in mortal life. So, all the characters we can find in the Commedia serve the main narrative purpose that Dante gave them to carry.

I'm wondering just who is this Ricardo family that bought the Medici palace in the 18th century...I cannot imagine how much that palace is worth in today's market. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 It's unfortunate that the Medici Dynasty died out (so it's been said. There IS a Prince Lorenzo Di Medici living in Italy today. He's been on TV a number of times...
@geniusspeaking4 ай бұрын
The Riccardi's was a family of bankers grew very rich in 1600. Medici family was doom to be exiled from Florence few times: that did not help in mantaining money and power. As far as I know Medici family ended in 1737 with the death without heirs of Grand Duke Gian Gastone de' Medici, last of his dynasty

Shouldn't I assume then that the language of the Visigoths has only two genders? In certain philosophical theories 'male' and 'female' are symbols which refer to two distinct cosmic complementary forces. So, it makes a big difference whether you consider words such as beauty, idea, truth, etc, as neutral or masculine of feminine forces.
@geniusspeaking7 ай бұрын
Well, to be honest I don't know about Visigoths; as ancient languages I know latin... But surely goths languages merged with latin to give birth to vulgar latin, which after morphed into modern italian. In fact still nowadays Italian language uses words coming from germanic idioms.
