Brother, one good pine like that can provide a lifetime of fatwood! You got alot of processing to do on that one tree! Keep going to it! I want to see every part of that tree recovered for fatwood! Your cuts left 67% of the fatwood in the heart of those trunks. I want to see more!

Do you store the processed pieces any special way ? Plastic bags or buckets ? Does it tend to dry out ? Nice knots ! I’ve been hunting around here in Indiana but not found anything that big.

You've got me excited about my next walk through the woods here in the south of Scotland with my Patterdale Terrier, Tino. We have all kinds of forests surrounding my little town so i'm guessing i'll come across a ton of fatwood knots.

Don't mean it in a bad way, but I don't think using that hatchet to baton is not such a great idea. You take a chance of severely damaging your knife.

Great video. You have a warm spirit. I have a bunch of fatwood knots/joints carved down for ferro rod handles. Been too busy to use them. The lines are very cool. Beautiful 🦌 deer. I had one take a nap about 50 yards from my camp one day. I was flattered. I believe you're absolutely right. They know who has safe vibes & who has aggressive vibes.

What ya'll call fatwood is what we here in Florida call "lighter." We are extremely fortunate as this resource in central Florida is almost like salt in the sea, it's damned near everywhere. My best friend owns a cattle ranch and lighter is EVERYWHERE. We have a huge pile at his camp that we have collected over the years, and I'm talking giant stumps and logs that take a chainsaw to cut if you don't want to work yourself to death with a folding saw. We have a decent amount of processed product in various forms. Mostly when we have an event, or cookout down at camp we just chop some material from the pile and start our campfire, keep our processed material for "emergencies." Great video, thank you for posting.

Great haul! I carry a small can of WD40, spray it on the saw blade/teeth, and the resin doesn't stick to it. Cutting efficiency goes way up. You have a great fatwood forest. Thanks for sharing your find and technique.

I actually found my 1st great find yesterday here in Fl. I've done a couple knots, which were not bad, had a vein of solid resin. Yesterday I found a fallen tree stump standing 3-4' above ground. The tree originally was probably an easy 12-18" diameter. I knocked off all the Rot, came to the core/heart/center and cut at ground level on the core. The core was approx 8" Diameter, full of Sap. The crazy thing was all the concentrated Sap was in the rings but full. I'm yet to find the 100% gold what u showing, I do now know where to look 👍✌

I'm in Fl, from NM. I've been camping for years and always practiced survival. Today, here in Fl, I found my 1st true piece of Fatwood. I was in a burn out, found a fallen tree, the stump I knocked off all the Rot, got down to the heart/center, started cutting this stuff and u talking a Cardio workout, plus the blade of my Bow Saw kept gumming up, I got a piece an easy 4' piece FULL of the Gold. Tomorrow I'm gonna cheat and use my Chop Saw to cut to length then process into workable pieces. Crazy, been in the woods my whole life and now I'm an ol F**K, dontcamp like I use to I learn about Fatwood . U know how many pieces of this stuff I've burned, knowing about the Sap, never knew of using for Survival. 👍👍, good hunting, camping, survival, this is amazing stuff processed right!

U said this tree was cut down a year ago? Was this tree dead when it was cut down, because WHERE did the stump get all the Resins if their was NO tree above?
@EarthBlue2
@EarthBlue2 2 жыл бұрын
The tree was cut down because it was sick. The pine tree was infected with the southern pine Beatle and it was dangerously close to to a residential building. Just as soon as the tree was cut down it began to bleed out pine resin. Thanks for watching and there are many more videos that followed that one. Please watch them and share your comments. Cheers 🍻..
