Sounds like the son was over 18 years & therefore a legal adult!! Make sure your child lists parents as next of kin & leaves behind a medical power of attorney in the new state!!

The problem is, Both Next of Kin and Power of Attorney are separate pieces of paper, that I may have copies of, but THEY may not have copies of at the time that emergency Happens. Because they have this Notion that their Phone will Do Everything. Sometimes you need to have Hard Copies with signatures, and this is one of them.

Great points! Yes, once they're 18, having those documents in place is essential. A medical power of attorney and listing parents as next of kin can really help in case of emergencies!

Spooky. Online platforms can't replace lawyers. That $2M likely represented a lifetime of discipline and hardwork. Probate means the estate was subject to creditors.

Or you can do a transfer on death deed (in states that allow it) for less than $500 and it happens without a trust or probate. But I'm not a lawyer, I just pay for good ones so I don't do things like this. YMMV.

The Beneficiary can be whom ever the policy holder decrees. If they are smart, they will have it held in trust for the Minor. That way the Lawyer's office is Culpable if anything goes wrong and someone else tries to control the inheritance.

Hello, great question! Minors cannot directly manage the funds, leading to legal issues and delays. Minors may also lack the financial knowledge to handle a significant sum responsibly. Instead consider setting up a Trust and speaking to an Estate Planning attorney.

It would help to show graphics/flowchart/etc. to explain the Trust. This was it's hard to follow what you are explaining. It's easy for you but for us it's hard to comprehend.
