damn, i wanna see this done to the hellcats lol. this makes me wanna aim for madkatz. only down side i've seen people mention about this rod was the color fading fast. but not too worried about that.

Good to know I just got my first Baitcaster Shimano TRANX 300AHG, wanted to try something new 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂ for Flounder, not sure what rod to pair it with. think might be overkill for flounder.

You ever decide on which one to go with? I am also in between the same two rods. Price isnt an issue, i just like the grip style/color better on the mad katz. I fished with a buddy that has the hellcat heavy action and you could see small fish bites as good as any. Aesthetics is what it comes down to for me

@@canalcasts-mc7jt I hear you. The reason I chose it as a frog reel is because it's saltwater rated, it was designed for wade fisherman. As you know frog reels get a lot of green slime in them from the places you have to get into, and the tranx can handle it!

I have Daiwa Prorex 400 and its smooth, strong 30 lbs drag and high speed 8.1. Casts a mile with the T-wing level wind. Cant backlash it even if you try. But im getting a tranx 400hg this weekend. Putting it on a shimano SLX crankbait or Glass rod. Not sure which one. What would you reccommend . Ill be throwing monster swim/glide baits in rivers for big stripers. Should i get the heavy glass crankin or the SLX crankin rod. I love glass. Hard to order a rod without actually feeling it
@stripervince1
@stripervince1 10 ай бұрын
I looked at these last year and wound up getting a Daiwa prorex 400. I liked the T-wing level wind for castability and the drag is 30 punds almost double the tranx. But i recently looked again at a tranx 400 and i really liked it so im gonna get one, and put it on a quantum KVD 7'6" glass heavy action crankin rod . Will be used for my huge 14 inch swim and glide baits that i throw for trophy sized stripers in the rivers and lakes of East Tennessee where i moved to, specifically to fish for these monsters. I fish where there are 60 lb stripers. Im tryin real hard for one of those bad boys......

Have you actually ever tested the drag output with a scale. That part where you pulled the line off and said 18 it was probably more like 8 pounds. Otherwise you would have been cutting your hand.

I am not crazy about braided line only because it tends to spool up more loosely than mono. That can cause some backlash when casting large lures. Backlash is a pain when the fish are biting.
@mooncritter721

I was going to buy a TRANX 400 but now it looks like KASTKING is going to release a new musky reel using their patented AMB auto spool control system that eliminates all backlash. No more thumbing the reel. Just cast and relax. It should come out next year I hope and will be far less expensive than the TRANX. I am guessing it will cost about 200 bucks. Maybe less and be better than the Tranx. The TRANX has no braking adjustment on it as the KASTKING WILL using a unique cantilever spool speed adjustment system. As the spool over runs the system automatically applies more braking which stops the over run as it occures then backs off as the spool slows down. It is a game changer in the bait casting world! This results in farther casting with no concerns or thumbing the spool to worry about! A backlash proof baitcasting reel! Imagine that!

Hey there… you’re not the only one that this happened to….! I ordered a St. Croix Avid Series Surf Rod 12’ and it came with just the plastic sleeve from the factory…. Whoever grabbed it off shelves dragged it on the ground and the butt section showed how much damage it caused… really bad packaging… actually none at all..! Called Amazon immediately and sent them pics of the said delivery…. They sent another and told me to keep the damaged rod or give it away… so I fixed the original…. so I now own 2 premium surf rods for the price of one …. This rod is about $500.00 Don’t know any one that owns 2 of these…. They’re pretty bad ass ! I just want to say Amazon is not your friend…. People that work there are not happy.. … therefore they don’t give 2 shits about your package…..! Any way,…. Hope you enjoy your new rod and good luck to you..! 🤙😎👍

I'm considering getting one in the 7.2:1 for deep diving crankbaits, like the S. King 6XD (dives @ 17/19ft.) I have another setup with Curado 200K with a slow 5.0:1 gear ratio (conventional slow cranking) but want to try the faster retrieves that guys are increasingly turning towards as an alternative in triggering the bites. How would you think this reel would handle the heavy drag created with these deeper diving crankbaits in terms of not wearing me (arms & shoulders) out? With the lower speed of the 5.0 you get more power in return which really takes a lot off the body stress of the repeated casting with all of that resistance in cranking those big lipped crankbaits? Excellent presentation, thank you!

Nice review, im in the west of Ireland i want to use lures for bass and pollock. Using baitcasters aren't popular in Ireland in the sea but I want something that can cast maybe 80 yards. I can cast a long way with a fixed spool, and long way maybe 240 yard's pendulum casting an Abu 6500 throwing a 5oz weight and bait on a century tip tornado. So im able to control a baitcaster , this kind of fishing with lures and baitcasters is new to me. Hope your new home is working out well 👍

Hybrids, White Bass and Stripers have a very sharp ridge in the center of their gill plate that will cut you like a razor! They will not let you stick your thumb in their mouth. Larger ones will get internal damage if you lift them by the lip without supporting their belly. if releasing, be careful how you handle them.

I have major problems with this same reel bc the drag loosens while I fish and I think maybe it’s bc I use it for good size swim baits but never over 4 oz but I have to tighten the drag up after every 7 casts. Maybe it’s bc of reeling in glide baits and ya do the half turn motions in quick succession?? I recently took it apart to put in carbon fiber drag washers but it already had them I took it apart to make sure nothing was wrong and put better grease on it and testing tomorrow but the drag star still just isn’t right it tightens too quickly the distance you tighten the start between super loose and incredibly tight is about an 1/8 of a turn it’s crazy it’s either super loose or super tight. ??

If I can with these rods(or any rod) I usually will always go in person to pick the rod up no matter what to avoid damages in mail if purchased online. Plus these rods are amazing usually when people buy rods and this type of thing happens sometimes its a manufacturer issue. Sometimes you just get a bad rod that was made with a issue when being created. But most of the time if your not trying to horse a cast it shouldn't happen. But if it does then hope ya have the replacement policy. Lastly I had gotten the 9ft last summer and paired it with a 3500 bg with 30lb braid. Now I just bought the 10ft to be used with penn battle 6000 with 50lb braid to be used with doc lures and sp minnows and yozuri long cast minnows for stripers and gator blues here in the northeast. The gators usually are here in late April to mid may. So it will be a great addition.
