Thanks for sharing the video footage. The chief engineer pf the North Staffordshire Railway from 1886-1916 was George James Crosbie Dawson my 2nd cousin 4x removed. In Journal 51 of the North Staffordshire Railway Study Group, there is an article about this life written by Mike Fell O.B.E. in which I contributed information of my genealogy research. There is a lot of information and great photos in the article.

The fields in the foreground of the panning shot looking at Silverdale from Keele bank, is scheduled for over 900 houses to be built there soon. The land that was Hamptons scrap yard has been sold and houses are going up, right next to Walleys quarry land fill site, rather them than me.

You’re incorrect. This game is played at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground and Forest are the second team running out in the darker (red) shirts. You can see Forest’s all time record scorer Grenville Morris leading the team out.

One of the all-time greats. Obviously not quite in the class of Geoff Lohmann. But got 5-fers in half the innings he bowled in - peerless in that respect (though Geoff was generally bowled considerably less than Sydney)

Fascinating for me as one of my great-grandfathers and a few other family members in that generation worked as potters at Doulton's in London... we still have some pieces that we were told came from their time working there.

That area has effectively become another town centre with the creation of the retail park and entertainment block. It was a shame that most of the parkland had to be destroyed to make way for the buildings.

I too wish it was left as a manicured parkland. Not to be 😞

Its really sad how Newcastle market has declined, I remember going as a kid in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s it was always busy and bustling with endless stalls . Also the arcade where the vue cinema is now . That was a great place. Newcastle is like a ghost town now , its tragic

My Grandad Alf Copeland worked there 40’s- 60’s. He lived in Slater street Middleport. I lived in Elers street Middleport and could hear the sounds of Shelton Bar foundry whilst lying in bed as a child in the 60{s.

No evidence whatsoever the model was a 'memorial' or an 'act of commemoration' or that German POWs constructed it . The time of the 19 mines going up was 3.10 a.m not 3 a.m and Messines has an 'S' at the end of its name

In case anyone is wondering, this clip is from an independent documentary on SF Barnes. I highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in this great bowler or the cricket of his time. However it is quite short at around an hour long, but it's fantastic nonetheless.The only way to purchase it though is via the producer himself, Ray Johnson, and you can drop him an email via the website Howard Dixon posted.

Wonderful to see Sydney Barnes in action . I seem to remember reading that Reg Simpson of Notts , played in a charity game when Barnes was an old man , and took some cine film of the great man bowling .
@hamz543217 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, I wonder if such footage is available somewhere and not completely lost. Where did you read that if I may ask?
@paulkearvell4527 жыл бұрын
I can`t remember where I read it , I went through books and articles galore in my time . But I can`t have misremembered the truth of this , because it wasn`t just somebody took cine film , it was specifically Reg Simpson . And I think , but I`m not certain , that it had been included on some commercially available film , at some time in the past .......Is David Frith still about ? He was an expert on old cricket film .
