The mastery of Pyonson keut has little to do with the thrust, and everything to do with the position of the fingers. ..comes from practicing (sometimes for years) to bend the last knuckle of the index finger upward in the opposite direction of the middle knuckle, to match the tips of the adjacent fingers, so all three fingers are the same length and strike the target at the same time. The hand looks "cupped" from a distance, but the palm is actually flat, the index finger middle knuckle is bent, so many practitioners, seeing this from a distance, do their forms with cupped hands, which is wrong. There is no twist when striking, the twist comes from "locking" the wrist (eg. Rotating the left wrist counterclockwise until it 'locks'), which strengthens the wrist longitudinally along the direction of the strike. The strike is designed to go between the ribs, which are slanted, so the practitioner should be positioned to the left of the target to use the left hand, so the slant of the hand matches the slant of the ribs. When breaking boards, channeling 'chi' ( so daejun ho hup practice is also required ) to the tips of the fingers is essential, because the fingers don't actually have the muscle mass strength to go through boards without tearing the tendons. Also, surprisingly, this technique will go through boards, but not through loose cloth.

The basic of fingers for spear...pointy finger straight, other fingers tightly group n bend to meet a clean n straight impact point. It looks like your middle finger is taking most of the impact. Try doing it gently agaist a flat surface. Ul feel the difference. Look at othr youtube channels n start to undrtand. Also it takes time to strengthen and aknowledge the downfall of this strike unless well conditioned. No disrespect, we all share n improve

Also, all othr fingers shuld "harden" to the length of second finger. Pointy. In striking, fingers are held strongly togethr n none projecting further than Pointy. Yes, wrist n ends of fingers need constant impact trainning.

If not mistaken, in difference to a twist in a punch.... For a knife/spear hand, the "activation" from wait should be as parralel as when the hand strikes target. No twist at the end. More of a straight stab. ... So i was taught

Isn’t that too small of an area to aim for with that type of punch? The philtrum is tiny and easier too stick your finger in for the effect I believe you’re going for. Your finger whether with the tip or the side pushing into it will take them straight back off their feet.
@NickkaDUB

I feel like a normal punch to the bridge or even the point of the nose would be easier. That person will be moving and most likely trying to block you. It reminds me of when woman are taught to poke someone’s eyes with 3 fingers. That’s really hard in a real world situation with that style of jabbing to a small area and doesn’t leave them in a position for a good follow up. Maybe with you training for a long time to punch that way, you can do it, but the average person won’t be effective with that style of a punch. I also feel like it’s going to set you up to grab them afterwards or be more defensive rather than continuing to attack.. Again, maybe you’re used to that training with other people in your style of self defense. Like it would translate in karate vs karate, but not karate vs boxer. Hopefully you understand what I’m trying to say..

@@NickkaDUB this isn't meant to be self defence per se. It's a technique from traditional TKD poomsae which should be aimed at the philtrum as in "at that height".
