While you were at it, it would have been good to clean and calibrate your injectos. You can get an injector pressure tester for around $90. I bought a new set of injection nozzles from Parts 4Engines and put those in. I cleaned the old nozzles and am keeping them as spares. Also, you fan belt looks a little loose in the video.
@twohalf-hitchesАй бұрын
That would have been a good idea too! I think I'm due for new injectors soon anyway.... The belt is also due for replacement soon, but we're considering updating the alternator soon to power our new lithium system so that might all be replaced with a serpentine

I wouldn't touch it for all the money in China. I don't like sailboats older than 1984 seriously. If it doesn't have a sugar scoop on the sailboat how are you going to safely get into your sailboat if you fall in the water under sale have you thought that one out the gunnels of your boat is a meter 2 m a meter and a half. When sailboats get older than 1984 there's just too many problems seriously

Yep! We’re using as much composite as we can and the plywood we use gets soaked in resin to make sure it’s waterproof

Fun behind the scenes fact - Right after wrapping the final shot on this video, my main microphone's connector broke and it went straight in the harbor 🥲 Not so fun behind the scenes fact - Courtney is better but this summer has been tough for her. We're focusing more on taking it slow while she recovers so our next video might not be out for a while. If it has been a while since you have been to a doctor, make sure you stay on top of your health and advocate for yourself when you know something is wrong. We were extremely fortunate, and unfortunately many others are not.

6:27 I'd recommend removing that hose clamp. On my boat there were some hose clamps on the backstay and the backstay was much rustier than any of the other stay. There may have been some galvanic action. But it could have been the turn buckle too.

@twohalf-hitches6 ай бұрын
Our new plates are grade 316 stainless steel, some people prefer grade 304L but it’s not nearly as resistant to corrosion as the 316 grade is

Great job and well executed!! I do have a question for you though. Did you ever consider doing the chainplates in bronze? Bronze will not develop crevice corrosion or lateral load cracking. Bronze however is softer than stainless, so if improperly mounted to a point of any load movement you could see so "stretch" in the bolt holes. Just curious. Thanks
@twohalf-hitches6 ай бұрын
We did look at bronze but as you know it’s also weaker so we would need much thicker plates to get the equivalent strength, so we stuck with stainless this time. If these need to be replaced in 10-15 years we’ll probably revisit it

Not sure where in the world you're referencing but last time I checked air conditioning is not an exclusively American technology, but if you want I can flip it inside out and cool off the whole planet with it while we're not on board. Or we can continue to use it guilt free because Texas gets 40% of its energy from renewables and it's only getting better ;)

7:55 wait.. didn't you just say that your an engineer?! i mean, why are you not adapting that window unit to be just like the marine.. you just said it yourself, its the same principal. lets think about it for just 1 minute. window unit uses air between two surfaces. one outside, and one inside. why couldnt you make an air duct adaptor to attach to the front and back of the window unit, and make a air handler to swap air in and out from outside, and inside? then you could mount it back where the marine unit was, and be able to sail with it without taking it down? why are you taking the idiot approach and making your boat look like a homeless camp with AC? use your god given talants and make a air handler for it.. it cant be that hard. and why do you need capital? just how much capital? surely not that much when window units are soo damn cheap compared to marine units.
@twohalf-hitches8 ай бұрын
Because as an engineer I know better than to run that much ducting through the boat. It would have to be massive, at least 10inch diameter, insulated duct to bring enough air flow through the unit and we would lose that much more of our precious storage on board it we did that. Not to mention every bend in the duct is a huge efficiency loss. Our solution is the most energy and space efficient system possible for the way our boat is laid out. And the capital is to invest in designing/building new systems that are more friendly to boat owners, it takes a lot of engineering time, resources, and manufacturing facilities to build air conditioners.
@russoley89958 ай бұрын
I put a mini split system in the engine room of a 53 ' Hatteras . wasn't much more than the cost of one marine unit and no more worrying about clog water or something breaking and it flooding the boat. As you said you think they could come up with something better.
