In the late 80,s I delivered a couple of Nardi steering wheels to David Piper at his house near Camberley & spent the best part of an hour being shown his amazing cars shoehorned into glorified sheds in his back garden & talking motorsport.He did;nt know me from Adam but would have happily carried on all day!!

"JD" were a bunch of crooks - and their engine-builds were crap. A friend got involved in a legal case with them after the engine in an expensively restored E-type failed three times. He built XK engines for road and competition cars for decades, and was retained by the car's owner to dismantle the engine and provide a written report. The list of basic errors in assembly was quite something - from failing to clean out the oil galleries properly in the block and crank to mis-matched rods. Since JD had to pay out, I am totally confident in what I say.

Because JD did it and talks it up it’s an investment and worth big money but if I built it it’d be worthless rubbish, it’s a bit like taking the mud guards off a classic bike, giving it a rattle can flat black job calling it a bobber and asking three times more than a concourse one and idiots buy them.

I used to work for a garage in Camberley Surrey called Eddie Bennett Engineering and David Piper used to come the garage..he was a friend of the boss..I remember going round David Pipers house to pick up parts for a Ferrari we were working on..at the time I didn’t know who David, Eddie did tell me at the time that David had a big accident at Le Man 24 in which he lost his leg.. the accident I think happened during the filming of the Steve McQueen film Le Man 24.

swaped the sohc for the dohc and went with a cheap ecu and the fiat tipo gt plenum all good for 5 years of abuse , expect engine has bad compresion now, from 78hp to 118 , had a lot of trouble with power with carbs and the chinese idf ones were hard to set them right
