This is a re-introduction of the Pietta 1873 Taurus Gaucho & Heritage RR Big Bore SAA revolvers from 5-10 years ago. They added a 4-notch hammer cam, but retained the transfer bar, which seems rather pointless. My guess is that purists wanted to 'hear' a 4-click hammer, but were willing to go with a transfer bar anyway? The 2-piece grip frame allows use of a 1-piece wood grip, but this comes with cheap 2-piece plastic grips, and an all-black finish. Not really what I would call 'pretty', and the best price I can find is about $550.00. By comparison, I got a New Old Stock Heritage .357 with transfer bar & 3-click hammer, 9 months ago for $375.00. I also got a current production Cimarron Pietta 1873 Pistolero 9mm/.357 (dual cylinder) 6 months ago for $490.00, which still has the firing pin fixed on the 4-click hammer. Both revolvers came with 1-piece wood grips, and the Pistolero has a case-hardened frame finish with brass trigger guard & grip frame, which truly is gorgeous! All 3 cylinders interchange with these 2 revolvers, and likely with the "Deputy", as well. All of these are the same basic Pietta 1873 SAA revolver with different features fitted to them, at the request of the distributor, whether it be Heritage, Taurus, Cimarron, EAA, Frontier, or whomever. Although there is a slight frame-casting & hammer difference to accommodate the transfer-bar firing pin setup, most of the parts on these revolvers are still interchangeable, within the same caliber. They are available from a range of distributors, with dual cylinder options for 9mm/357 and 45 ACP/45LC, as well as grips, frame & trigger guard finishes, and barrel lengths of 4.75", 5.5", & 7.5". Bottom line is to shop around and get detailed info on what features you want on your SAA revolver, before you bite on the latest eye-candy! Cheers!

Holy Cow! I hope my local range gets one in have as rental gun. I would really like to try shooting this and seeing what it feels like. How is the recoil compared to a Glock 19. What is the size compared to a Sig P365? Is this realistic for an EDC gun? The idea of having 20 rounds without reloading really reduces that need to carry a magazine. And, having 10 rounds in a stripper clip gives a total of 30 rounds in a smaller package.

Rifle looks great, but I do not like the trigger, it is loose, moving back and forth freely like it was a toy, not a real gun. That is the main problem. The other smaller problem is the loop , which seems big even for winter use. Is Smith and Wesson going to fix that loose trigger in future?

Sure took them long enough. This should have been done many years ago. Or better yet, never implemented in the first place.

What I dislike about the Hillary hole, besides the horrible fishy smell, is the fear that the lock will engage at the most inopportune time.

Hopefully this will help their sales, now if they can get the quality up also.

no locks = more sales = more money = possibly higher quality if they actually reinvest instead of just pocketing the cash

Not aware of many sports shooters and professionals being fond of the internal lock feature. Have heard of many potential customers passing on acquiring an S&W, instead buying a Colt, Ruger, or prelock older S&W. About time that someone at Corporate has admitted and realized that stubbornly insisting on the internal lock has lost sales besides increasing the cost with labor to install extraneous parts and additional machining on the frame. Would like to see more Models made this way.

I received mine at my FFL two weeks ago. Very excited because l remembered them from circa 2012 and never owned one. After inspecting it I did not accept it. Two out of five cylinder chambers were bored off center and did not line up with the barrel. Not enough to cause catastrophic failure but enough to cause accuracy issues with those two chambers. If the revolver ever went out of time those two chambers in particular could cause a catastrophic failure. Not good. I chose to have the distributer send a replacement. Hopefully second times a charm. Buyer beware know how to inspect your revolvers, especially Taurus. All manufacturers can have a bad sample Taurus has a higher likelihood, they still haven't mastered their QC(although better than before) and they don't seem to inspect their tool and die regularly. They do higher volume than the other companies as well, at least with their revolvers being budget oriented.

I like the 7mm Backcountry but would use a 24 inch long barrel and a 1 in 8 barrel twist. And a muzzle brake to keep the recoil down.
