There is a quote from a great russian writer Leo Tolstoy that I will try to translate: "If a man knows, how to think, his every thought wil be about death" This quote found me in a very transformative moment of my life, where the ideas of my own mortality and especially meaningless of everything started to haunt me. What was the purpose of my life after all, its meaning? Would there be any difference, if I died tomorrow instead of 10 years in a future? What if I died today? Or yesterday? Before that I compared myself to those around me, my deeds to their accomplishments, my failures and my victories to theirs, and I always feeled uneasiness, like I underperformed or didn't catch up to them. But with time I came to conclusion, that on the most fundamental level, there is no difference, that we're equal, all of us, no one is better, no one is worse. It is all completely meaningless. And that's nihilism, ladies and gentlemen! Something that many great minds encountered and seemed as a danger to society. But from this absence of objective meaning sprouts to life one simple idea: if nothing has intrinsic meaning, you can impose any meaning to anything in this world and it wouldn't be wrong. It would be meaningless. So as this reality. And that's absurdism, folks. Personally, I wouldn't care about my life ending right here and now, because I don't see any meaning in continuing this play, actually, I don't know, how to feel about anything anymore, like death of my beloved ones. But either don't I see any meaning in ending it at all. That's a curse, like we love to say, but that's simultaneously a blessing. Because you can choose how to feel about anything that happens, outside and inside of that incredibly complex brain of yours, even how to feel about your feelings. True freedom in the world, where we, from the very moment of our birth, are bound by these strict rules of this reality. No one is free, nothing is free, and never will be. But that doesn't matter. So, about our mortality, you can ask, dear friend: "Well, why the heck wouldn't you end your existence, which is fundamentally about struggles, and that you view as absolutely meaningless, right now?" That's a good question, my fellow! For that one I have at least 2 answers: Firstly - I was raised in a such moral system, that suggests, that in case of my premature death everyone, who cared about me, would be hurt, some less, and some much worse. And if I have any bit of integrity left in my head, one thing I know for sure: in this world, where our lifes are filled with pain alongside joy, I don't want to cause any more harm to my loved ones, than they endure every single day. They can feel whatever they want about this world and their place in it, my place in it and so on - it is their choice. I won't try to mold myself or reality to their likings, but from a purely egoistical reasoning, I don't want them to feel sorrow because of my death. I would rather bury them and be alone, because I want so. And second - I'm scared of death xD. Not really, actually, we all been dead for a long time, a few billion years at least. Has anyone had any bad feeling in this time? Any feeling? And so did I. So death isn't really so scary. But what about pain? That's a good one, but if I off myself, I would make it with a huge freaking gun, so it would be quick and I won't feel any pain) But besides that, what is so wrong about pain, if it all meaningless? What was I thinking, when I started to write this tirade? The hell do I know xD. Maybe I whanted to show you, that you are not alone in your struggles. We are all in the same boat, that sails in a fucking abyss, of which we could (or not) make our own meaning. Cogito ergo sum. This is all subjective from the nature of our existence. Feel however you want, live however you want. It is your choice. That's one thing that you always have, even if you don't feel this way. And don't you ever listen to people who say to you, how you should live! Or listen. It's up to you. You've got this ;)
