Your playing is always amazing, Travis but what's going on with the mix? The drums are way down and sound kind of muted.

Travis did the initial drum mix and then I mixed it into the rest of the song. So anything you like about the drums was probably because of Travis, anything you didn't like was probably my fault ha. I definitely like drum forward mixes (wish Baard was higher up in the new Leprous mixes) so wasn't my intent to have the drums down.

My 20" kick is 'nested' inside of a 24", and there's a heavy blanket atop it all to further reduce cymbal bleed into both kick mikes.

@@TravisOrbin thanks heaps. when i record my drums, i use a trigger on my bass so super cool to learn about this. gotta say too, you are one of my favourite drummers (up there with Jimmy from the Pumpkins). your technical chops, part writing and approach to gear are all inspirational. you'll be un-surprised to know im rocking a blonde 20" kick too 😸

I'm wearing the new DS-III model, they're great. Vratim also offers the grip tape, I've really taken to it. Looking forward to testing it out on the road.

I remember hearing this around 12 years ago for the first time and being blown away by the level of subdivision control on display, how seamless the transitions were and how effortless it was to lead with the left foot. I still come back to this vid every now and then for inspiration.
