Quiet luxury is a style worn by rich people defined by simplicity, monochromatic classic looks and showcasing its high quality (brands like Loro Piani, Brunello Cuccinelli) as a form of social and economical status. But it became in recent years a trend to adopt its ‘quiet luxury style’ among the fashion minded population in a very affordable way (by high street brands). Old money stems from traditional rich families who do not necessarily has a quiet luxury style but could also reflect a classic style with a touch of glamour in their wardrobe (Chanel, Dior, Ralph Lauren, Burberry). Whereas loud fashion has visible branding and logo’s, prints and even colors. What all have in common is that rich people have different sense of fashion and taste but all of them showcase their economic and social status in society or among their peer groups by expressing through fashion choices.

I think people are tired of the mainstream luxury brands as they have recently raised their prices while their quality has gone down. People are going for lesser known brands of equal quality.

Someone commented on this before and I agree with her. I always like / prefer to wear classic and chic looks. Also for bags, though I don't mind having some logos on my bags as long as they're not excessive and as long as the bag's styles are classic. The blings / logos in the bags add to my simple and classic style. It's good to know some bag brands are more quiet than the average so I may consider them in the future. And I can get inspiration from the quiet luxury styles featured in this video for my clothings. However, I don't mind adding some colors / accents to what I wear so I won't be bored. Thank you for the video, it adds to my fashion knowledge.

Thanks for watching and sharing, I'm so glad you found the video helpful 😊. Great point on bags - it can be quite contextual to the outfit it's paired with, and agree colour can be a great way to elevate your look.

I was ahead of QL because I was broke. Worked out that wearing a small palette (basically navy) on clothes as smart as I could afford (not a lot) and a decent handbag (charity shop) would help with confidence and poise in job hunting. And...if the smart black trousers were from ASDA, they fit well and were brand new...and let's face it I was hardly going for Old Money jobs. :-)

In my experience it's not going anywhere. My circles aren't the uber rich but I've had a lot of experience with circles of top professors, artists, and local wealthy business owners, and ever since I was a kid everyone dressed in nice fabrics with very minimal or no logos. The thing is though, if you have the means to do this, it's more financially responsible to buy high quality items that if you take care of and repair will last for years and years or decades to come while being much higher quality and more comfortable to wear! I would also say that a lot of wealthy people don't just buy from the 'quiet luxury' brands mentioned, a lot of people get them from small fashion houses nobody has ever heard of like filippo de laurentiis, ferrante, private white v.c., brands that have no logos on anything, but are handmade in Italy and England with amazing fabrics and attention to detail. Honestly, brunello cucinelli and loro piana are very overpriced for what they are, small houses have the best in between, and you're supporting smaller businesses, lots of which may still be family run! Again though, this might just be my circle, and this was mostly in the past when I lived in the city in Canada. In the town I'm in high end sportswear seems to be more popular, and in the city I go to school in it's a massive mix of a ton of different trends. Just buy and wear what you like and buy high quality, and learn to take care of your garments for decades of well worn use!

I think we're missing the big picture here. Why is quiet luxury en vogue during a recession? Because it keeps you from being a target. Kim K. got robbed of her jewellery in her hotel suite in Paris. Her younger sister embraces the understated quite luxury style. I think they learned wearing flashy items is like a red flag to a bull.

Nothing quiet about it. Luxury lost its lustre with the viral surge of LV decades ago. When my dry cleaners started wearing LV, I lost interest. In order to to ‘know’, you have to spend a lot of valuable time finding out, and if you fill your head with that pap, how’s it any different to H&M or Zara? Give me people who,shop thrift, who work from cut, quality of fabric and fit, and who know themselves their bodies and lives, and dress accordingly. They have time to put into what matters, and what will last. Most hotel housemaids know all these brands, so what? If it only was quiet, but it’s so shrill it needs noise cancelling headphones.

Oh please, the only reason people are gravitating towards this is because if they go out flashing a bag with a brand on it like LV or Dior, they will get mugged, paint thrown on them by jealous social justice warriors! Lets face facts, these days you can't be rich or be proud of your hard work that enable you to buy the brands anymore! Sad but true!

imo this 'quiet luxury' craze is 100% a response to the flex culture of the hypebeast era, logomania and streetwear's dominance over fashion trends during the 2010's. The pendulum has well and truly swung. What's interesting is that the type of flex culture that came out of the hypebeast era, as well as streetwear, all derived from Hip-Hop culture [I'm envisioning rappers covered in logos, flexing gaudy jewellery and loud designer brands while spectators try to emulate their lifestyle]. There's been a lot of talk over the past 12 months about Hip-Hop's declining sales and it's chokehold on popular culture loosening, it seems the same is playing out in fashion too. Enter 'Quiet Luxury' and 'Old Money Aesthetics' to serve as the antidote to nouveau-riche entertainers and influencers, and spectators seem to be flocking to imitate them now instead.

Saying that this style is racist is lazy and stupid. Not everything is racist. It is actually racist to think that Al black people like logos. Gross.
@stylesnippets8 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching. Completely agree that not everything is racist. The video explores the various perceptions held about the type of person who does or doesn't wear the trend, and that unfortunately includes a biased view for some around a style that is predominately associated with black culture (including the egregious view you mentioned, that all/only black people like/wear logos) - which is where these 'undertones' come into play. This doesn't apply to the people who don't think that, but some certainly do.

I cannot stand the showingness of logo luxury products. Maybe because I know “those” people who use these products to pretend they have money or new money that flash the new wealth with these brands, and I think they all have their priorities wrong. I owned an emerging designer boutique once and it was such a struggle to sell things for a fair price because people didn’t know the brands. A friend 10:06 of mine that just bought a $1000 Mulbury bag, who thought a designer coat with a lot of design features and detail for $300. I always joked if I took a $2000 Gucci bag, took off the logo and put it in my shop, I wouldn’t have been able to sell it even for $150. I’ve always found the neutral colours more stylish, however it is a shame that colour is seen as trashy or over the top, maybe because it is hard to style colour in a classy way. To me it would be ideal if people appreciated apparel by less known designers that don’t mass produce and make things ethically. Somewhere in the space between overpriced luxury brands, and fast fashion
