This should be the first thing that pops up when I search Morrisons Jig but sadly I had to dig very hard to find this again

Love the sound of your Northfield octave! Although Cooley's has been recorded with dozens of other reels, the most common pairing in traditional sessions is with The Wise Maid. A great recording of this is on the album Ómós Do Joe Cooley By Frankie Gavin and Paul Brock although Frankie plays it tuned up a half step. If you're interested in Celtic mando, listen to Marla Fibish, Mick Moloney, Andy Irvine (of Planxty) and Gerald Trimble

Very nice tune, thanks for sharing it with KZbin. Is that the mahogany or the maple Northfield? I've never played one and was curious if the mahogany had a similar sound to a Martin D-18.

Bravo ! You seem to be a natural with Irish music. I still struggle with the triplets. Will your next adventure be Irish banjo ?

The swallows tail reel is also good. Completely different to the swallowtail jig, also good. BTW this is also known as Joe Cooley's, which is cool. Lovely playing , there seems to be use of sustain on the lower strings while playing higher which gives a spooky quality.

Wonderful playing! I just discovered your old time mando vids, and here you are playing my favorite genre. Might be fun to hear mando and octave mando together? Also, jigs are fun, to get yourself out of 2/4.

Irish trad dance tune are played in sets of 2 or 3 tunes. The “wise maid “ is the usual tune played with Cooley’s reel - trickey but nice key change

You have a deep well of repertoire! Do you get these tunes from youtube mainly, or do you have someone passing on material to you? If I might ask

Trying to make it deeper!! I'm just checking out tunes that my friends or folk on here suggest, then just learn by ear from popular recordings!

I recommend the book "Irish Fiddle Solos" by Pete Cooper from Schott. In fact, I recommend his other fiddle books, too. There's one for English tunes and one for Scottish tunes, and other books in the series. I don't think he edited them all, but all the ones I own are good, if not the last word on the subject. There are many collections of folksongs and dance tunes, scholarly and otherwise, for all kinds of places. It's a barrel without a bottom, as we say in German.

Sometimes the KZbin recommendations produce lovely well-hidden musical gems and this is absolutely one of those times. WOW, how incredibly beautiful is this performance?! ✨ Big bravo, Brielle, truly splendidly done! 👏👏👏 It's pretty clear, the voice of your mandolin and your sublime playing have the heartfelt beauty to touch hearts and uplift spirits in a very pure, simple and authentic way. I don't have to think twice, instantly subscribed and one thumb up 👍😀 Thank you SO much for this moment of pure enjoyment! And please keep shining and playing, Brielle, the World definitely is a better and more beautiful place with your music in it! 🌎🎵🎶🌟💫🌈🙏💛😊

So many good Irish tunes: some jigs--Banish Misfortune, The Blarney Pilgrim, Tripping Up Stairs, Out on the Ocean, Jimmy Ward's, Morrison's Jig. Some Reels--Maid Behind the Bar, Silver Spear, Banshee, Gravel Walk, Julia Delaney. Hornpipes--Rights of Man, Off to California, Boys of Blue Hill.

I've only been playing Irish music for a couple of years, and don't know that many tunes, but those are some common ones here. Find a session to sit in with, and learn the tunes they play most often. You play very well--they will be happy to have you.
