Perhaps it's time for another remake. So much is left unresolved at the end. It looks to me as if they left this thinking that there would be a third series - but somehow it never happened.

I watched this when it was first broadcast, and didn’t like it. I’ve now watched all 4 of the original series, and read the 4 corresponding books. If you take this as something entirely different from the Leonard Rossiter series, I actually like this. Simon Nye’s outrageous comedy helps too. And I’ve certainly had this conversation with one of my managers: Him: Morning John. Good weekend? Me: No Him: Good

This show was well written and executed, and Clunes was ideal for it, but it is so hard to remake something so classic and of its times as the original. Let’s face it, the BBC is incapable of making anything even as good as this remake anymore.

This is much better than it could or perhaps should have been. Never a massive Clunes fan, but he's shining here, and the tweaks to the original (the wellness clinic etc), as well as some of the little particles of philosphy ("using language to evade reality rather than illuminate it") work really well .
