Coming back to this now that we’re nearing the end of the manga soon, and I had the idea, what if this is Deku after the story ends? Maybe in like, late 2nd or 3rd year at UA, he’s still in school, working to finish his years at UA, and has a moment of realization that even after Shigaraki/AfO’s plans and being thwarted, society doesn’t change? It starts reverting back to how it was. Corrupt heroes, backroom deals, the streets are still dangerous. And what if that makes Deku long for a way to change, to get out of the status quo, to go “into the unknown” as it were, despite reassurances from others he loves about how “we’ll change it ourselves once we’re out there” and “it’s gotta be a slow change”. He knows that in that time they’re waiting for change to happen, people suffer and die when he could have been out there making a difference. And that’s what starts the whispering in the back of his mind. And the push to go, leave, and do things his own way. The ‘villain’ way.

i really liked it but i thought it was confusing to have both dekus be the same color, especially bc they look so similar...maybe next time have one of them a lighter/dakrer green? Either way i loved how you played with hero!deku and villian!deku singing to each other, it was very good!

Okay, this actually puts a really neat spin on both the source material and the song; instead of Deku being inspired to follow his destiny, it's Deku being inspired to follow a dark path. Instead of Deku being a hero or a villain, he's a villain and a hero at the same time, without split personality shenanigans or multiverse bullshit. It's a super cool concept of Deku, even after becoming a hero, slowly, naturally, and gradually moving into becoming a villain, and it's just really cool. In short, HOLY MOTHER OF FUCK THAT WAS AWESOME
