I always clean my fridge before I go grocery shopping the next day, or before garbage day. Just makes it easier to find items.

Here's an awesome idea for the souvenirs. A little story first....I was having dinner in Helsinki. Behind the Hostess desk was a very large picture frame. Guests would pin their label pins on the fabric backing. There were hundreds. So everywhere you go, pick up a pin for your souvenir frame. It's wonderful to look at. All shiny and full of memories.

Forgot to add....include your Girl Scout, and brother's Boy Scout pins, I sold Avon 50 years ago, my Avon pin is there, there was a memorial pin of when the East German Wall came down, My Dad's 50 year employee pin, favorite teams, US flag. So great to just stand there with a glass of wine and gaze at all of the memories.

What a fun idea! I like to take a picture of our family in each place we travel and print it out and pin it to a map!

Have a rule...Everyday find at least one thing to toss out. Even if it is just looking at a shelf or inside a drawer. That one little thing means, "Ah, I did it. I'm on the right track." Mission accomplished.

I love that you said the rules are made up. I literally just got finished trying to write down the number of clothes I think would feel like a minimalist amount for me, and instead I just felt like I was trying to force something to work that doesn't exactly have real reasoning behind it. Maybe a better way is to keep what fits comfortably in the areas where I want to have my clothing. The problem with that is we move every 1-3 years, so the amount of space I have is always changing. I may try relying more on core pieces and just know I can purchase clothes at the thrift store if I really feel like I have so little that it's making my life less convenient instead of more convenient. This is a great minimalist list of secrets, though!

I think core pieces is a great idea! If you keep items that you're excited to reach for and love wearing, you can always add in "filler" pieces if you find your needs change and you need something additional. I've found personally that emptying my closet and putting back the things I really like has been a helpful visual approach vs. trying to declutter out specific items!

I completely agree with your first statement that buying less is more valuable than buying less. This is so true! I have decluttered my home multiple times, but have ultimately just filled it back up. The first priority has to be not bringing stuff in your house.

It's really changed my perspective when shopping to ask myself, will this be something I'm decluttering in the future? Because if the answer is maybe then oftentimes I'd rather just save the money! 🙂 Thanks for watching!

@@MinimalMindfulMama, I just realized that my comment needed proofreading! Decluttering is only valuable if you don’t bring more stuff back into your house (which is actually the hard part). I actually think that limiting purchases and operating within a budget should be the first priority or else your decluttering may just be making more room to buy more stuff😩

I truly thought the only way to give this cardigan a second life was through textile recycling... But I saw reels where other people dyed their clothing and I was inspired - it would be the perfect way to cover the stain! I'm so happy with how it turned out! Not only does it look good as new but now I have an additional cute color of this cardigan to wear this fall! #goodbyefastfashion #fashionrevolution #stainremoval #sustainableliving #textilerecycling #stainhacks

The acticle seems to be a try of big corporations to make people keep spending. Because if many people turn to minimalism and stop buying unnesessary stuff, many corporations will lose money, some will even go bankrupt.

So true! Especially cheap decor items that require little time or effort or quality materials to make and need to be replaced year after year - I'm guessing there's a big profit margin there!

I think we often blur the line between minimalism as a lifestyle (living frugally, reusing, not having clutter everywhere,...) and minimalism as an aesthetic (all white/neutral, nothing on display, sterility,...). Personally I hate the minimalist aesthetic, but I like the lifestyle and even though my home is full of colour, patterns, luxurious fabrics I don't own much clutter. On the contrary I have a friend who has a home straight out of an ikea catalogue and it feels cold and sterile, but her drawers are cluttered in junk. So yes, I think it helps to make a distinction between the aesthetic and the lifestyle.
@MinimalMindfulMama
@MinimalMindfulMama 3 ай бұрын
Such a good point! The aesthetic doesn't affect the clutter, and it doesn't mean that you are living with intention. Anyone can have a home that is functional and they use and love regardless of their style aesthetic!

People from the great depression raised baby boomers. I’m a gen X and a baby boomer had me at 22. Three years later, she had my brother a millennial. We were not raised with a scarcity mindset because as soon as my parents started making more money, they spent it.

I was so sad about the cardigan- I got it from @everlane and it got an awful dark blue ink stain all over it! I tried so hard to get the stain out but on a cream sweater even though it faded it's still ruined. I've since replaced it so I was thinking the only thing I could do with the stained one was to recycle it but I've been seeing people dying clothing on here and I think I want to try that to cover the stain! What color should I try? #momlife #declutteringmotivation #clothingrepair #declutter #clothingrecycling #dye

Whether you decorate for Fall in July, August, or October, keep this tip in mind! Evaluate the things in your home - is it something you love and would purchase again? Don't put decor out just to put it out. And don't leave it packed away taking up space to not be put out again next year- let it go so someone else can enjoy it! #declutter #falldecor #augustdeclutter #howtodeclutter #halloweendecor #cozyfalldecor

Everything pictured is clothes my 8 year old already had and still fits from last spring and this summer! Sometimes, pairing things new ways and seeing them again after a few months is just as exciting as the short-lived excitement of buying something new. If you're interested in the breakdown- Mermaid shirt- bought from Children's place last year Marie Curie Shirt from Piccolina - bought off Thredup last year Everything else- Secondhand items from clothing swaps, buy nothing group or handed down to us from friends! Of course, as the weather gets colder there will be additional items swapped in and out! But again, I'll shop my home first, then secondhand before buying new! Check my stories for my favorite secondhand clothing resources! Save money, and help the environment! #secondhandstyle #backtoschool #kidscapsulewardrobe #Underconsumptioncore #Underconsumption #minimalistkids

Hi!! I decided to cut out screen time this week, too. I decided to do no screens M-Th. We homeschool, and we're still trying to finish up our school year, so I used to let them watch t.v after school as an incentive, but decided that t.v. is a privilege, and if they don't do school, they can't watch it on the weekends, and it's really going well for us too!! My kids have already adjusted to the new rules, their behavior is better, and yes, they're more creative and reading more, playing better together too! I recently read a study that even 2 hours a week can have negative impacts, but I think a family movie night is a good thing! Glad it worked well for you too!!

Today in Underconsumption core... Back to School clothes shopping can be a fun tradition! But don't forget to go through what you already have first. You might have more of an item than you thought, or be able to pass down some like-new items! Save money, save space in your closets, and help others! My girls are in the same size as they were last school year (this may be the first time that's happened?) AND the weather here doesn't cool until October-ish. So I've gone through some of their spring and summer clothes to create a "new" back to school capsule wardrobe! #momlife #underconsumptioncore #backtoschoolprep #kidscapsulewardrobe #backtoschoolclothes #secondhandstyle
