Hi I know this video is super old but yes, the back of Altyn's aren't as good as the front visor. I believe the actual helmet is only level 4 as the visor is level 5. So Sp-5 would be plenty to pen the helmet. If you would have fought him head on it would have been a different story lol.

These aren't the shield used by the Romans and Vikings. The shield is used by the Frankish army.

You need some longspears behind those shield walls so the walls don't HAVE to defend themselves ! Maybe them, or you as a commander, should have smoke to counter fire. I formation should work fine even in smoke as long as everyone stay focus and dont spin arround. Also the fire perk would help a lot since your'e so vulnerable to it

We kitted our characters out for units after the Marian Reforms, so Legionaries. Pre-marian was something I was toying around with at the time, but it was much simpler to start with a single flexible units rather than a few groupings of specialist. We used a number of Velites during training but in Frontline matches it was almost entirely Legionaries.

@@Captain-Jinn Actually you can make meniple formation with taking 1 player as an entire group, 2 Velites in the front which also have a medic bag (They reality had), 3 Hastaties(Normal players) Behind them 3 Principes(Experienced players) then 3 Triariies(Veteran players) In the last line, this takes 11 people, it is fairly better to use 2 more players, one for an Equite(the best Horse rider in your group) and another(Weakest player) for Rorarii which can sneaky attack them from behind, Yeah I'm asking to change the whole formation from Legion to Meniple formation. And to use auxiliary Skirmishers instead of Velites is better because Missile Units were more auxiliary and levies(Except Velites) at the time of the legions. You can also add 4 more people, 3 of them to the main lines and the other one to the Velites.

Unfortunately this doesn't work as well as it could in game, and this is because of "vehicles". For example, the Nords were using the shield wall tactic before ballistas (or even crossbows) were even a thing. But even the cavalry proves a problem, and they WERE around back then. A horse is a living animal, not a machine, and no matter how well a horse is battle-trained, they would never charge directly into a shield wall under normal circumstances. But in this game, the horses are controlled by the people, and don't think for themselves. so a cavalry charge of two, or even one horse would be able to break the lines and the rest of the ranks would be vulnerable.
