Missing the intent of this exercise - why would you reread such a long series if you have so many problems with it?? Is it to steer ppl away, provide constructive criticism for Brandon or what? It does seem a little cathartic for you, but what a lengthy exercise to get there. Seems like it would be a waste of time the way you are all just joking about how bad the book and series are. Forgive this ignorant criticism of you all, but I am getting the feeling you are getting a lot of personal enjoyment out of seeing how many critiques you can point out to make yourselves feel smarter than Sanderson and the very large fanbase of these books.
@SyllasPoecats2 ай бұрын
I'm generally against the concept of reviewers providing criticism for authors because reviewer and author spaces shouldn't overlap that much in my opinion. As we said towards the beginning of this live stream: this is partially catharsis, partially the need to have some videos out there providing criticism for other readers because it's very hard if not impossible to find any content on BS that engages critically (and in this case also actually negatively) with his works. I don't consider it a waste of time and neither do my two cohorts. We do get personal enjoyment out of being smart enough to spot BS's glaring worldbuilding issues, though, thanks for noticing ♥

Well, I haven't seen you around in the MangaTube sphere before. But I sure do love your excitement for your manga collection😊 Ah, Dorohedoro and the Girl From The Other Side, two series being in my top 5 manga of all time. And here's some great news....Dorohedoro, after 4 whole years, has announced that Season 2 is in the works since January of this year, so there's that to look forward to. I've always been curious about Pandora Hearts, but not the easiest series to collect, in English at least. And Assassination Classroom has been on my ever growing list for quite some time that I think I'm gonna have to pick it up soon since everyone always gives it a glowing recommendation. And seeing as someone else in the comments mentioned my #1 series ever, I'll have to give it a shout out as well, in case you're in the mood to pick up another series. That series being Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind. It's simply a masterpiece, 'nough said lol. Thanx for showing us all your collection😁

Eyyy, great video! This sounds awesome I'll definitely be adding it to my non-fiction TBR. It's interesting hearing somebody talk about the anecdotal side of pop-sci literature because for me, the balance of anecdote to science is what can totally turn me off a book like this. You get some stuff that's just so dry it's unreadable, but then you get other things like Sy Montgomery's "The Soul of an Octopus" where it's marketed as a book about octopus science and an exploration of their psychology, but what it actually is is "My personal journal diary over the year in which one of the things that happened was that I met an octopus, but I'll tell you about all the rest too", and I found myself just like oh my god can you get back on track please. I wonder how much is the author genuinely feeling like their anecdotes are interesting, how much is about them feeling like they can bring some kind of metaphor to the story by injecting their personal life into it, and how many just use it to break up the dry science. It genuinely must be a hard job to do when you're writing something like this. Sorry, you just made me word-vomit into the comment box. Clearly the sign of a thought provoking review <3
@SyllasPoecats5 ай бұрын
we LOVE word vomit in this household, lay it on me ✨ and I do agree! pop science is always walking the tightrope of relatability versus informative content with its scientific discoveries broken up by anecdotal content or throwaway sentences/paragraphs in order to engage readers beyond the information they intend to present. It's NOT easy and I admire every scientist turned writer who manages to keep the balance well enough!

so the thing about Nigerian publications being more prominent in suggestions has something to do with Nigeria being one of the largest economies in Africa. The same thing is happening with Argentinian authors in South America so authors from these countries have more resources to get their books published and marketed over seas. I was looking into this recently.
@SyllasPoecats5 ай бұрын
@@CoffeeOverApplesthat is so interesting!! ofc it makes (a bleak sort of) sense: if a country proves itself to be "valuable" in some way, we get to pick up more literature by them bc now publishers know they sell lmaoooo it's so bleak in a way 😭😭
@GatekeeperGuardian-wv3cd6 ай бұрын
I think the reason we don't have Violet undergoing the obvious character arc of unlearning jingoistic propaganda is because it would mean Rebecca Yarros herself would have to critically examine the jingoistic propaganda she's constantly surrounded by. I think that's why there seems to be so many trope invocations without substance: Actually adding substance to those tropes would mean Rebecca having to go quite far outside of her comfort zone. It's fine if she doesn't want to do that. I totally understand. But it's really frustrating when you spend so much time running up to a point and then, instead of arriving, you just turn back despite it being so much less effort to finish what you started at that point.
