Good job! Explained the article in a very clear and structured way. It's truly helpful to watch this video before reading the articles in detail.

Jeremy has a unique talent for cutting through BS and focusing on what truly matters - a very practical view of the world. Love his and Rachael's learning/teaching methodology: give people the bigger picture first (top-down) and only then start digging into more details as needed - it resonates deeply with my way of thinking (so I'm biased haha).

ReLU is a switch, f(x)=x is connect, f(x)=0 is disconnect. I guess you can view tree branching as switching too. Perhaps all ML can be viewed as switched dot products.🖖

Does anyone else have a comment on the value of hand implementing gradients? After using tensorflow so much a complex network like this seems like it would take ages and be prone to bugs.
@drfat

I'm quite fascinated that he calculated gradients manually.
@siquod
@siquod 5 жыл бұрын
Network complexity doesn't factor into it, as calculating gradients is very modular. It's just some elementary calculus rules for each layer type, all combined with the chain rule. So once you've written the gradient rule for a type of layer (which is usually very easy, and there are just a few layer types), no additional work is required.
