Hey, man! Thank you for the kind words. How has your own Japanese study been going? What happened to me is that I decided to take a one-day break from editing, and then I fell into a spiral doom loop that had me procrastinating for 6 months. I’m ashamed. At least I kept up with my Anki reviews, so I still made some tiny progress.
Thanks. I know what I am. Sorry for procrastinating on replying to your comment for 5 months.

@Trudge_Along8 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for checking up on me. My feeling is... balance, I guess. I switched from reading easy version of newspaper to normal version of newspaper recently. The grammar is considerable harder. But if I take my time and apply the fundamentals carefully, I can read pretty accurately. That make me very happy. On the other hand, each article bring with it about 30-40 new vocabulary. I'm having serious trouble remembering all the new words.

I would advise you to get yourself really busy with something you find meaning in (maybe for you it's not Japanese). Stay strong but also don't be too hard on yourself.

In this step, are you still learning new words and doing anki review everyday? Also are you reviewing or learning new grammar everyday day?
@Trudge_Along8 ай бұрын
I stopped doing the Japanese core 2k at step 4. I did not start step 5 and just did enough anki review review to retain the vocabulary learned in step1-4. It took about 30-40 minutes to review but the time is geting shorter with each passing day. During this step, my only source of new words and new grammars are from the article that I read. I put most of my focus on Article's grammar so, to be honest, I don't remember the new words that well.

@@Trudge_Along Word retention and gain from reading is totally great. And as for grammar, retention of already known grammar as well will be strength as you come across those. But you will certain not be able to learn new grammar that way, and for me, if I'm not learning new grammar I don't feel I'm advancing in the language.
@Trudge_Along8 ай бұрын
@@SupremacyGamesYT That's an unique way of looking at it. Which resource do you use to make sure that you have new a grammar point to learn eveyday? Given your focus on grammar, perhaps none of my newspaper reading so far offered anything news?

Yea be careful with grammer over saturation. I basically learn a new grammar every 1-2 day. Any when Im not learning new grammar im reviewing old grammar. However if you dont understand a grammar, obviously you wont the first time don't just keep at constantly let it stew a bit. So basically im saying like study a piece of grammar every other day. gl In terms of listening practice, probably be careful with doing stuff too difficult else it will dissuade you when you shouldnt be. (as evident in the end there lol) Another thing I noticed is that is a bit odd, its a bit hard to explain but I blelieve it shows your verb conjugation skills may not be there yet.(Of course I don't exactly know your level so I couldnt reall say what you should know already) But anyway, at 10:50 you are identifying できる by recalling that it is the non kanji form of 出来る (to be able to do). So I feel you may not know or may not be coming to the conclusion that できる is not just a verb its the potential form of する which you know means to/ will do and in the potential form becomes できる。 Sorry about the essay, bsaically what im saying is sometimes you'll learn a verb out of nowhere and its not just a verb its a conjugated verb. aka be sure to study and get good at conjugation! cheers For example in the early days when I only used Duolingo, I was taught xxxxxx~に住んでいる and I thought was just an entire expression, obvious to what に is doing and that's and conjugated form of 住む. cheers frugal
@Trudge_Along8 ай бұрын
Thank you for the comment. Those are some great advices. In the future, I will try to pace myself better. I think I learned 出来る as a vocabulary quite a bit of time before I learn about potential form. That's why when I see できる the first thing that come to my mind is just 出来る as a vocabulary instead of it being the potential form of する. I'm not that good at conjugation yet but I know it's an important grammar part of any sentence so I have a piece of paper where I note out all sort of conjugation rule. Your point about encounter new stuff in conjugated form really resonate with me. Recently I encounter 受けなければなりません and even with my conjugation note I was stunned for 10 minutes.

Hi frugal Do you only use Tae Kim for grammar? I personally can't stand use books or text, so mostly use video lessons (on KZbin). Have you ever tried them? I recommend. Also I know people swear by Tae Kims, vut I must question it's teach/curriculum order. Because what you went over in this video I've never seen, so I don't think its N5 and you shouldn't be learning anything but N5 of course. Just make sure you're not learning anything beyond your range, else you may have trouble and be wrongfully discouraged.
@Trudge_Along9 ай бұрын
You made me remember time in the past when I had to go through English grammar textbooks. I remember hating it. Ha ha. Yeah, so far, I have only relied on the Tae Kim guide for grammar and nothing else. That said, I don't doubt that if there is a grammar point I don't understand, watching people explain it on KZbin is probably better than reading textbook. I have not progress with my student far enough to encounter such a grammar point, however. I agree with your point regarding the Tae Kim guide curriculum order. It doesn't fit really well with people trying to take a specific level JLPT test. I think of the Tae Kim Guide as building a whole basic house without any furniture inside while studying for a specific level of JLPT test is building only a single room but it is very nice with lots of furniture. They are different approaches.
