To be honest I hate Christmas songs with Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl being the one and only exception. But I really liked this review although I could have lived without knowing the existence of Santa Baby by Madonna (🥶)but the Annie Lennox one was a pleasant surprise.Hope you had nice holidays and Happy Birthday and accordions are cool ,I mean if you see what James Fearnley of The Pogues could do with that instrument.

Love Fairytale, even with the problematic word. It's such an anti-Christmas song and yet still retains the feeling of one. Must be the Gaelic instruments. Thanks for commenting!

“She’s impersonating Mae West impersonating Betty Boop.” That is a perfect description! Haha technically Mary nodded, but yeah. And thank you for saying what I think about Seger’s voice. It totally sounds as if he’s trying to squeeze one out. The video for Gabriel’s Message used to creep me out when I was a kid, and I was a bit of a horror fan even then.

Thanks for your review. As you said, we may disagree, but you point out some things that I overlooked, and I appreciate it. Perhaps strangely for an atheist, but understandably as one who has sung early music for some time, I've more than had my fill of secular Christmas songs, and have to be held back from destroying any audio source emitting "SAAAN-ta Claus is comin' to town...". The 16-beat percusson on "Gabriel's Message" doesn't detract from it for me, and the Slaughter of the Innocents is part of the Christmas story and as such deserves to be heard. That said, I appreciate your insights and we can cheerfully disagree. If you're going to review more anthology albums (looking forward to _If I Were a Carpenter_!), please do consider _Stay Awake_, a collection of songs (and in the case of the late, great Ken Nordine, narration with wonderful backing music) from Disney movies.

I remember People magazine's review having this line on Stevie Nicks' version of Silent Night: "Hoo boy. Elmer Fudd goes Christmas caroling." I haven't been able to hear the song without hearing the Elmer Fudd enunciation ever since.
@gunclemark844025 күн бұрын
I love Stevie's music, but her voice is just so rough, and she knows it when she has to drop her voice to get to the end of each verse. It's awkward and she should've chosen a different song. Thanks for commenting!

About “We Built This City:” the lyrics “Marconi plays the mamba” is the stupidest thing ever sung. They weren’t even looking for a rhyme, either. Check this out: Marconi was never a DJ, and even if he were, he would have played a mambo, samba, meringue, etc., because a mamba is a highly venomous and aggressive snake. I’m sorry, but venomous snakes flying out of my speakers tends to interrupt the flow of my day.

I know “MacArthur Park” was originally from 1968, but Donna Summer’s 1978 remake is a travesty. Only only thing could make an awful 1960s pretentious trash pile into an even longer dance to the death: cocaine.

I never heard anything as awful as Donny Osmond singing Puppy Love with that little girly voice of his. Yuck! If it had been a number 1hit, which would have made it even worse for me instead of number 3 (I think), would it be on your worst 70's list? I can't believe I haven't seen it listed on any worst song lists, but it should be. I agree with your choice of One Bad Apple, which is well named, but would Puppy Love be on it too, hopefully at number 1 or close to it? I hope so. This song is so bad that I'm almost too embarrassed to even mention it. I haven't heard it in many years, which I'm glad of, and hope I never do again!
@gunclemark8440Ай бұрын
Never cared for that song, even the original version by Paul Anka. However, Yo-Yo is a much worse Osmonds song and if it had reached #1 it would've been on the list instead. Puppy Love might have been a dishonorable mention at least. Thanks for commenting!

Phil Collins was pretty terrible, but I think that ' Another day in Paradise' should be replaced on this list by Sussudio. I hate that song. Music, singing lyrics, it's all utter garbage. I'm normally not very outspoken on music tastes, but Sussudio is one of the songs I just plainly hate.
@gunclemark84402 ай бұрын
It's also feels very overproduced and the rhythm section is obnoxious, but it's a lesser evil because it's so obviously bad while Another Day in Paradise is insidious. Thanks for commenting!

Why does Bob from Will Power sound like he’s going for an impression of Sonny Bono when “singing?” Also, I know Bennett The Sage has already made this joke, but Bob in the music video looks like an unrealized Nicolas Cage character. I can’t unsee it and it’s hilarious. 😆 🤣😂

I have a soft spot for The Night Chicago Died, but I do recognize it's not a good song. I mentioned The Streak is annoying but Everything Is Beautiful is so much worse. Junkfood Junkie didn't hit #1, and Bread had Make It With You hit the top spot. Thanks for commenting!

While "One Bad Apple" is a Jackson Five ripoff, The Osmonds were at least genuinely talented. They could sing, dance, and play instruments. Also, their cartoon show would've been slightly better if they'd swapped Jimmy for Marie. I'd rather listen to The Osmonds, than an exposed fraud like Jennifer Lopez.
