Thank you Nick. This message is really helpful to me where I’m at in my deconstruction journey right now. God is Perfect. Those that wrote down His words are not.

Of the 1,426 named characters in the bible, just 111 are women. Why any woman would be a Christian, would voluntarily sign on to invisibility and life as a notch above livestock is beyond me.

I'm not sure where you got the two verses that were "most normally" used in the Bible in support of slavery in America? I thought the one they pointed to is the most clear condoning of lifelong chattel slavery in the Bible. Leviticus 25:44-46 says; "As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you. You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be you property. You may bequeath them to you sons after you to inherit as a possession forever. You may make slaves of them, but over your brothers the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another ruthlessly" This is chattel slavery plain and simple. You put it up on the screen yourself. And this is the Bible condoning it. Owning people as property for their entire lives, along with any children born to them. This is a sample of the passages the clergy pointed to in support of slavery in America. Simply pointing out that the Bible says we can own lifelong chattel slaves. So long as they were foreigners. The debt "slavery" you referred to in this video was only for Hebrews. Foreign chattel slaves had nothing to do with debt, kidnapping, and wasn't voluntary. The most common ways to become a lifelong chattel slave in Israel during OT times was to be captured in another nations war, or to simply be born into it. And both of those ways are Biblical. And the discussion of the translation of "Doulos" and "Eved" in the English Bibles is interesting for sure. And Peter Williams is on your side there. But you can't eliminate slavery in the Bible by simply calling them servants or bond servants anymore than you can eliminate slavery in America by just calling them servants. It's why you see the word "slave" in the OT so much now. Because sometimes that's just what it means. For me it simply raises the obvious question of why the Bible condones lifelong chattel slavery and never tells us that it's wrong. Certainly not in the OT, but not in the NT either. And this I have never been able to understand.

You started out on the right couse then lost me in aplogetics . Slavery was inmmoral you even agreed with that. The God of the Bible did nothing to stop slavery and you will not find a scripture saying that slavery was wrong and should be stopped. The laws governing non-Hebrew slaves were more harsh than those governing Hebrew slaves: non-Hebrew slaves could be owned permanently, and bequeathed to the owner's children, whereas Hebrew slaves were treated as servants, and were released after six years of service or the occurrence of a jubilee year. Contrary to what you said yes slaves could be passed down through generations.Leviticus 25:46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly. Non hebrew slaves were not freed after 6 years. Tons of protectons for slaves: Exodus 21:20-21 says, “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.” Ephesians 6:5-8 Paul states, “Slaves, be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ” which is Paul instructing slaves to obey their master. Similar statements regarding obedient slaves can be found in Colossians 3:22-24, 1 Timothy 6:1-2, and Titus 2:9-10. 1 Peter 2:18 Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. Titus 2:9-10 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive. Slavery degrades humans into lesser beings and objects, often hurting or humiliating them constantly. And because slavery is inhumane, the slaver must constantly justify his inhumance action, making him also inhumane at the same time. I am sorry but there is no excuse for any of thse sick immoral teachings coming from what we have been told is a loving and caring God. Take care.
