As well as the dropped pups there are older non-flying orphans whose mothers did not return from foraging because they were killed or injured. Many mothers get electrocuted on overhead power lines or hit by cars. The orphans will starve or attempt to fly out with the colony , many won't make it. The colony watchers are wonderful caring people. Megabattie and Batusi Nights have videos of pups being reunited with their mothers on their channels. Mothers will revisit the location they dropped the pup for several nights , calling for the pup. Often they come with several "aunties" to help search. The pups will call back in response. Pups that are uninjured by the fall will climb the nearest tree so that it's mother can land and collect it. These are very intelligent creatures.

That has made my day. The sequence where it's travelling and not only changing colourvbut texture too was superb. Great choice of opening music also, I think this is the closest we will get to meeting an alien lifeform.

WOW Todd this video is awesome. A question, how long is that Ell fish Morena fish on this video, approximately.... It looks big. Greetings
@toddhackett11 ай бұрын
The eels in this video are Yellowmargin Moray Eels which are in the genus Gymnothorax (not Morena). I'm not sure whether I saw one eel three times or three different eels. One was out swimming (but I didn't catch that on video) and it was probably a bit over a meter long, maybe almost 1.5m.
@alexisnicole396511 ай бұрын
@@toddhackett Hahah Yes it looked so long, I was wondering it it was a camera effect or if it was really that long...their bite must be really that nasty, right/
@toddhackett11 ай бұрын
@@alexisnicole3965 No camera effect. It wasn't using a fisheye lens or anything else that would make it look longer. I'm sure their bite is nasty, but they aren't aggressive, so bites are pretty rare.

Perhaps a little further south from the beach?
@toddhackett11 ай бұрын
When I took this video, the bait ball was north from the beach. To my knowledge, spearfishing is only allowed when swimming or freediving on the west side of the island (i.e. not allowed on scuba), and the boat channel would block surface access from the beach. I think it's okay to snorkel south from the beach as long as you stay away from the boat channel. I don't remember seeing people spear fishing in that area, but I definitely see people swimming from the beach and freediving there.

Excellent thank you! I’m totally google earthing this whole thing I have absolutely zero knowledge of the area. What google earth doesn’t show me is the drop off around there lol. Does it get deep quick?

Maybe I’ll redirect my trip around captain cook instead idk
@toddhackett11 ай бұрын
@@justtoysociety8990 If you look at the aerial photos, there are a couple of boats moored to the west of the beach. Those are over about 25 feet of water. Farther out you can see the green can, which marks the outer edge of the boat channel. The depth there is about 90 feet and it continues to drop from there. There's lots of nice shallow areas near shore, and plenty of deep opportunities for scuba divers farther out.
