I just got through watching the bumper build on the Nissan xterra, and have to say that it was a great experience for me personally because I've been interested in a brush guard for my 2003 xterra 1st gen but don't really like what is available at the moment would you be interested in selling me a copy of the plans of your build?..keep up the great work and videos and hopefully we can come to an agreement thanks and God bless.

Very nicely done! Just on small detail though, you never did remove the front bumper. You only removed the front fascia that covers the front bumper. You fastened your awesome looking bumper to the vehicles front bumper.

Awesome build I’m a full-time wheelchair user who just found one of these 4 x 4 Quigley vans with a wheelchair lift. I’ve got to do this to that rear bumper. What latch or latch system did you use on the bumper to hold the swing outs in place?

I can definitely see your perspective there, however consider it being safer to not have touching contact to lessen any damage upon some kind of impact. You’ll see these gaps in a lot of bumpers for this reason. I appreciate the input!

Thank you, and yes because it was built to his specifications and that’s how he wanted it then. But I believe he had a skid plate added later on.

There is a very large community of Porsche cayans and also Volkswagen touaregs in the four-wheel drive community. I sold my O2 Xterra and bought a '06 955S. You could sell front and rear bumpers like hotcakes. I would be honored to let you use mine as a donor!

Very nice build! I've been wanting to build a custom bumper for my '09 xterra using the same process you appear to be using (flux core wire). I'm curious how you prep for paint, sand blast? any chems besides acetone?. I'm pretty new to welding in general and feel like flux core makes for dirty parts even if you start with new steel. Thanks in advance.

Thank you! I grind, sand, clean up, primer and paint. You can sand blast but I don’t offer that service at my shop. Flux can get things dusty/dirty so just make sure you are making sure you get it nice and cleaned up when you’re in the middle of welding and cleaning up. I hope that helps!

Me too. Same exact thing. Thank you so much for the inspiration as there many of us that have basic hand tools and no access to a shop anymore. You showed us how it can be built without a fabrication shop and CNC waterjet cutters. Using the K.I.S.S. method and your perseverence you created functional art. The van looks better (way better) than the team of engineers who created the original. Thanks again, shopping for some cold rolled now!!!

How thick is the steel you're using?

I use 1/8, 3/16, 1/4. Up to the client on thickness for weight options. The winch plate/box and frame mounts are 1/4, 1/8 for the plates.
