Instead of measuring, you can put the pipe and flange assembly up to the boards to get them without having measure error.

Simple shelf rocks. I've had stuff like this in my house for the better part of 20 years. I'm not out to impress anybody. This is probably better built than any of that shit you find in the stores. Well done. Quick video. This is something that almost anybody can do with a few minor tools. I love it.

Is that lumber cheap? Looks thick and would run up the cost
@WoodworkingAcademyАй бұрын
It’s pretty cheap. It’s framing lumber (2x10) so it’s actually cheaper than most 1x10. If you look at 1x4 that aren’t rough cut and compare to framing lumber like 2x4, you’ll find the framing lumber is usually cheaper despite being thicker. It’s usually imperfect but that was the point of this project.

How likely is this to fall over?

Not likely. Probably the same likelihood as any other bookshelf.

Great vid, I'm on the same mind of build what you can afford and forget anywho who wants to be an elitist. On a completely unrelated note and only a suggestion never going to tell people what they should do, but some background music with your voiceover might help people stick around :P It's somewhat off putting (not that it bothers me much) to have complete silence between sentences, so some copyright free stuff low in the background could help. Again only a suggestion. Still watching the whole vid and liking :P Keep up the good work.

I also heard a lot of negative words about making furniture out of the cheap pine boards, but I always said the same thing, what if you can't afford the expensive select wood. So, I appreciated your opening words, and repping those in community who are not carpentry snobs. Great work also!

Yes. I would consider a hinged solution so that you don’t have the inconvenience of completely disassembling it every time you use it.

What if I just use a curved pipe and skip the ground support? Where I live walls are made of concrete so I was thinking if just screwing the flange to the wall
@WoodworkingAcademy6 күн бұрын
Did you try it yet? Concrete has low tensile strength so would be best to overbuild it or use wedge bolts. Let me know what ends up working.

Don't worry what someone would say for using cheap lumber. It's nobody's business. Make what you like and enjoy the process

what do you use to hang it
@initiallyseen5 ай бұрын
He just stuck it on a nail, but you could also use something like a saw tooth hanger, or put a small piece of wood on the back and screw it directly into a stud if you want it to be more robust
