Just stumbled across this video. I wanted to express my complements to Mr. Paikin on his book “the life”. An excellent preparation for any person holding ambitions of entering politics. I have given a few copies to budding politicians - many who have gone on to entering The Life. As for Mr. Dowbiggin (the elder) I’ve chatted briefly with him in person and online a few times over the years and we reminisced about the days of Ted Teeven - a true pioneer of talk radio. Bruce should be recognized as a hero in bringing justice and respect to the NHL players who were subjugated in the early days. I admire his courage. All the very very best.

Tim Ryan always did a great job regardless of sport. Too bad he never got to work with Fox’s Tim Ryan.

Without question, Tim Ryan ranks as perhaps the most versatile and most underrated broadcaster of the last fifty years. Charlie Jones was the equivalent for NBC. Ryan announced hockey, boxing, football (college and professional), college basketball (not certain about professional), equestrian, tennis, skiing at the Olympics, the Tour De France, and so much more. I wish I had been able to hear and see more of him, but I was born in the mid '70's. NFL football had much more regionalized coverage during the '80's. CBS put him with the Bears often. I know the focus was primarily hockey and time limited; however, I wish he had mentioned Irv Cross. They were NFL broadcast partners, for a year I believe; Irv passed not long ago. I've listened to some of their games here (Yes, I admit I to it). They were a great combination. It's worth noting that while Ryan and Brian relished being a three-member team, Ryan criticizes three-man booths in his book quite harshly. Anyway, I am glad to have found someone who believes he stands out among sports broadcasters.

Read what former Leafs President Ken Dryden has to say about the late 70s Leafs in his book, The Game. Perhaps it’s the 56 year old drought of not even being in the Finals that makes a book like this appealing. In my opinion, that Leafs team was good but not great and would not have won a Cup over the next few seasons if kept together. I do like and have the utmost respect for Gord Stellick and this host

Totally agree with comments around the 20 minute mark ... NHL Expansion drafts were completely watered down by the time the Washington Capitals entered the league. WHA and all the teams didn't leave any high level NHL talent available. It would have been interesting to see the Montreal Canadiens' farm club (Nova Scotia Voyageurs) compete against the Cap's initial club. Honestly, the Capitals might have been close to being the 3rd or 4th best club in the AHL.

They also used to have Howie Meeker between periods. An all-Canadian TV crew to teach us dumb Americans about hockey. Ronnie Schell did do the voice of Peter Puck, and he was American. Probably best remembered for playing Gomer Pyle's friend on that lousy TV show.
