Tarheel 100A-HP HF full coverage antenna . I have this connected to my 4Runner without holes drilled as well . However I ran into a problem with the vehicles computer and running 40 meter and 80 bands it knocks out my computer and throws codes easy to reset i carry a programmer in case. all Body panels are bonded another very important step most do not consider .I need to mention the computer tripping happens while running about 600 watts or more of course my Amp is a very high quality 0-30 mhz Tentec Hercules 2 radio Kenwwod TS480 . all in all its an astoundingly well performing setup and while driving down the HWYs of this country as i do often state to state i am able to have full conversations and most swear im on a base station radio so that being said the obvious issues being able to run the bottom bands . has anyone delt with this and what did you do . P.S I have used ferrites on the coax both ends made a loop in the coax at the antenna end short lead grounds to everything batter connected 200 amp breakers inside for disconnected fused at battery . Sure would love to be able to run 80 meter while rolling .. anyone thats on the fence with a Tarheel ive tried and made ever antenna you can think of including full quarter wave on 10 meter and the tarheel out performs all by a very long lead as i said the reports are always amazed im in a mobile . Thx happy DXing 73

Grounding and more grounding. That being said, 40 meters may always be an issue. I’ve noticed this from what others say as well. I remember K4JQR (sk) running about 1200w in his Cadillac with a Webster band spanner and he blew up 2 computers before saying, “ok, I’ll stay off 40.” Grounding via bonding is going to be your best bet. It will be extremely difficult to put ferrite on every input signal into the computer.

I was distracted with the open zipper fly. Sheesh! I would also simply solder those connections to the ladder line instead of trying to justify using different materials and argue which one gives the least amount of trouble. A good solder joint won't provide changing SWR readings due to corrosion or rust. It only consumes at the most 1/2 inch of lead material and you simply leave it alone. Of course, you can just do what you did in the field on the fly, but there doesn't seem to be enough "fly" experience here.

It takes a lot of courage to overcome sadness sometimes. I think it’s even harder trying to focus on all the good in life when you are hit with all of that at once! I am sure every moment you have to think about your dad and friend are opportunities to celebrate the lives they each lived, the influence they had on your life, and the spirit of each that remains in your thoughts and heart. It puts a lot into perspective sometimes but even if it takes some random person on the internet to tell you: You’re not alone. You can get through the pain. Try to share with the world the people you love most through your own actions! You are a great content creator, a very smart individual who has helped a myriad of people - myself included, and most importantly at the end of the day only human! Welcome back to doing what you love. My condolences on your losses. My prayers that you stay strong through whatever may come. -73s

The same week my best friend passed away , my father was diagnosed with vascular dementia. It was a rough road. I did it mostly alone. Dad was tough! Vietnam vet, state police detective. He and I started the journey to the end together and I was there when he drew his last breath in hospice. I think it was the most trying time of my life. He was 72 when he passed and my best friend was 27 at the time. Grief takes time. That big hole in your soul looks for anything to fill it. Your dad was blessed to have you there to help. Time is the only thing that helps. Life doesn’t stand still and none of us get out alive. Talk about the memories when you can. It helps. 73 brother

Thanks for the great demo. The arrl book shows an inside ceiling dipole with a center connector using ladder line down into the automatic tuner. An LDG AT 200pro II has a PL 259 connection for the normal antennae/coax. Does this mean we can connect the new dipole's ladder line to another coax with the right PL 259 connection to go into the tuner? thanks

Seems this is just a New twist on a antenna that is Old as Methuselah That being the about 130 foot of wire fed in the center with balanced line Ah but I hear the center fed dipole called a doublet and even read about it being a center fed zepp Seems someone got to talk about something I doubt this ZS6BKW will perform as good on 80 meters as but will say the difference might be minuscule I think what the thing is here Expound without admittance or explanation the virtues of balanced line Forgo a truly balanced match Yes I am not real happy Just I sort of perturbed at the fellow who first decided to install a unbalanced connection on the back of a transmitter
@AE4VJ
@AE4VJ 10 ай бұрын
This antenna has been around a loooong time. I’d hardly call it a “new” twist. However, there is a new twist in this antenna, the G0GSF. It’s created by the same guy, but uses less horizontal room.

For however long this antenna has been around. A balanced multiband dipole has been around twice as long. The coil of coax will that solve the problem that this is a balanced antenna being fed with a unbalanced line?????? Sure a fella can in fact feed a dipole with a unbalanced line Sure it appears to work Bunches of fellas do it :) Thing is ! If you do not understand the difference between a balanced antenna and feeding a balanced antenna with UNBALANCED line in a unbalanced state Your antenna and perhaps you too are a bit unbalanced

At about @23:00 or so, I see the bonding, with which I agree 100% regarding the flat braid. However, so far I haven’t seen you mention conducive grease between the surfaces and the bonding straps. I have learnt that it is not merely desirable, but indispensable because otherwise, sooner or later you WILL have corrosion between the connections at a minimum. Otherwise, a most excellent video…..particularly as you don’t pretend that it’s a be all and end all…..rather a guide, as each and every installation is different. I’ve installed in 2 separate T909 Kenworths that were supposedly identical, each with their own unique “issues”!!!! Thanks for this. De VK2XB

GerDay. @1:00 or thereabouts, my belief is that the single most important factor in antenna selection, even over and above price, is your application ……”fit for purpose”. In MY “radio environment”, even though I consider the Tarheel are an excellent antenna, and work very well, because requirements are that robustness is #1 priority, I wouldn’t consider anything BUT either a Codan or a Barrett (if considering an “autotune” style), which are both Aussie made,I know, so harder to source (but not impossible) over there. Most of my mobileering is done on rough, corrugated DIRT (not even gravel) roads in a multi trailer big truck, and,quite honestly, nothing else would last more than a couple of days, quite honestly. The cost of either a Tarheel or a Scorpion, or even a cruddy little ATAS120 is far too high to replace weekly. I have had a Codan 9350 on the bullbar of my truck for some years now and still going strong. I’m still at the start of your video, so I don’t know where else you’re going with it, but I hope you address bonding.

Nice video. I have done the panel bonding to my truck but I have yet to install the radio. One thing I did not do was remove any of the paint or corrosion protection. I just screwed it very tightly down to the existing panels and frame. May not be as good of a contact as the paint removed however, you are opening yourself up to corrosion in those spots. Once I get my screwdriver antenna I will do some testing. Once again, nice video.

As you said, the 'BKW, unlike the G5RV, was intended to be a multi-band doublet from the beginning. If you have a G5RV, you can easily trim the element length to 'BKW size, and adjust the window line length. BTW, that's window line you're using there, not ladder line.
