i think the rents and rates have a lot to do with it, also they have to keep the board of directors and CEO's in large bonuses and wages of luxury
@phoenixfurniturestudio

Yes, I think you’re right. Rents and rates will play a part in it. I totally disagree with charities paying large bonuses and salaries for top dogs. I don’t think that should be allowed. My view is plenty of stock volume coming through in the donations so surely it’s better to shift more at a lower price than fewer items at a higher price.

@@phoenixfurniturestudio i used to work for a charity and my friend recently walked out of being the manager of one, they treat the paid staff in the shops(manager)like dirt, they have profit targets, if the shop makes more one week then that is the target for the following week and you feel the area managers wrath if you fail, i worked for oxfam and once a year the CEO and shareholders all went to a 5 star hotel turning up in their jags, rolls and top end cars, all paid for by the charity to pat themselves on the back for a job well done, the legal requirement in the uk for any charity is 10% of the profits to who ever it is for anything after that can be kept, they are run like businesses now, not charities, sadly

I agree I think they should lower their prices and they get a lot more foot fall through the door if people knew that they were getting a good bargain and the charity shop was still making money off of their free donations

The idea of buying in a charity shop is to contribute towards their charity and not to find a bargain.

That's true, it really annoys me when people grumble about charity shop prices. They should go and pay full price elsewhere then. I have even seen people trying to barter on an item priced £1.50.!!!
@essexgal2085
@essexgal2085 2 күн бұрын
I disagree. If you want to donate to a charity just do so without getting something in return. I think the vast majority either 1) can't afford new 2) want a bargain or 3) - like me, wants to find something original/ unusual and not mass- produced. I saw a Primark shirt in a charity shop last week for £6.50, that's a joke, the original price probably wasn't much more.
@phoenixfurniturestudio
@phoenixfurniturestudio Күн бұрын
I don’t see why the two have to be mutually exclusive of each other I think it’s reasonable to be able to find a bargain and also contribute to a charity. These are secondhand goods that have been donated for free so I wouldn’t expect to pay anywhere near retail price for an item
@phoenixfurniturestudio
@phoenixfurniturestudio Күн бұрын
I wouldn’t haggle for an item in a charity shop. The point I’m trying to make right is that if an item is sitting on the shelves for months on end then surely it’s priced too high i’ve been shocked to see that charity shots throw away stock it dumpsters because it doesn’t sell or they’ve got too much stock. They shouldn’t be allowed to do that.

Maybe because so many are on the Internet buying items for such a small amount, yet showing they are worth a great deal , so they have people that know the value of things come to price them ?

I agree although it does seem to be the bigger name nationwide charities that are the worst, the smaller independent charity shops still seem to be fairly reasonable

Great tip for the separator, B&Q have them on offer for £15!!! so Ive just ordered one and hope that its still available for pickup in the morning. Though good tips, the air vent thing i would have thought would be better sucking the air from inside the tent to the outside, I'll be doing something similar as theres an existing fan thing in the building that i can plumb into, which is pretty neat! Goes straight outdoors from an 8-inch venting pipe from an in-line fan thing on top of the ceiling on the office blocks inside the building. Now am excited :O)
@phoenixfurniturestudio
@phoenixfurniturestudio 23 күн бұрын
That sounds like a solid plan! I’m glad you found the separator and that you’re going to be adapting the air vent idea. I use my air vent when I'm doing sanding too, hence why it's outside of the tent. If you can get your air vent to suck out from the tent to outside, that would be perfect!! 🎉🎉

If I do this to an Ottoman, would it be durable enough to sit on?
@phoenixfurniturestudio

Yes, decoupaging fabric onto an ottoman can be durable if you use the right sealant. Just make sure to choose a strong adhesive and finish it off with a protective coat!

Art deco pieces are back in style and I have seen a lot bar cabinets be restored. This restoration- transformation is STUNNING! This is the MOST BEAUTIFUL bar cabinet I have seen! I love everything about it. Your detailed, impeccable work on the piece is phenomenal! I learned so many new things and tips since you explain and share all the steps! I have used metallic wax on a table top and applied the hard wax on top without sealing it first and disaster happened... however, I have used oil based metallic wax and left it unsealed on a high traffic piece without any problem... after curing it doesn't go anywhere. Thanks so much for sharing
