I don't see how this case was allowed to come to court. Turner was charged with solicitating, found not- guilty, then charged with perjury for saying she was not solicitating!! I don't get it.

Mistake at the end. The final words of the judge "And may the Lord have mercy upon your soul" should have been answered - in England at least at this time - by a Church of England priest saying Amen". In Scotland it would have been a Presbyterian minister, and in Wales a priest of the Church in Wales -acting as a chaplain in communion with but not a member of the Established Church, which ceased to exist in Wales under the Welsh Church Act of 1920. The purpose of the death sentence was not to consign the convicted to hell, but to provoke repentance and give penance, which the judge would pray for as a matter of course after sentencing. The presence of the priest or minister to affirm the prayer served to "enact" the prayer of the judge in the eyes of the Church.

Lovely to see the late, great Mike Pratt here. It is a 1973 episode. Mike sadly died in July 1976. I don't know long he had the cancer for, but he does look a bit worse for wear here.
