Hi Ed! Good to see you again on KZbin. Thanks for sharing your activation. I had fun head-copying some of the callsigns. I still need to work on my short-term memory to head copy the whole callsign, but I'm getting there. I like PoLo, but my screen is a bit small for live logging. I'll have to look for a USB keyboard like yours and try with that. Love the pink socks, too! See you again soon es 73!

I did some measurements using a SWR meter on my MC-750 antenna. With 8 radials, I got better SWR (closer to 1) on all bands from 20m and up. On 7 MHz adding the extra 4 radials made the SWR worse (closer to 2).
@W4EMB9 күн бұрын
Once you make the radial modification, you may need to adjust your whip to a new place to accommodate the length of radials.
@YO8VET8 күн бұрын
@@W4EMB I did that. With 8 radials, the SWR didn't drop below 2 on 7 MHz, no matter how I adjusted the whip. I am going to investigate this further.

Practially, how much difference would this make? I think if I were to mod the radials I'd add two wires to each plug and have 8 x 8 foot radials rather than the 4 x 12 foot radials that come with the MC750
@W4EMBАй бұрын
So I have used both the 4 radials and the 8 radials . I have found i have improved performance with more radials . i have even switched from 4 to 8 in the middle of an activation. They do work well.

For those of you not in the know, all four of these guys are instructors at LICW. If you attend any of the classes above the Beginners Carousel, you'll see stuff like this in class. This is definitely a better way to practice than computer generated code. It's human sent, complete with timing differences, errors, speed changes, sidetone differences, etc. It's also conversational, so it allows you to learn to actually communicate in Morse code and not just send an RST and QTH. Awesome job guys!
