saw them in frankfurt 91 plus Köln (Cologne) in 92. support band in köln was WAS NOT WAS (had a hit at that time with walk like a dinosaur or so). great gigs

Mon concert préféré, je l'avais enregistré sur Canal + à l'époque, la VHS n'en pouvait plus à force mdr . Je rêve d'une tablature de ce Calling Elvis, Sultan of Swing et Telegraph Road ! (je sais, d'autres versions sont disponibles ^^).

What year did knopfler stop using the word fa**ot in the original Money for Nothin? When I hear the song on the radio now it is just blank where that word used to be. I typed out the original lines in a recent comment on the song and got an instant rebuke and warning from the You Tube woke robots.

@@markleininger95 In fact, the whole part where they sing "…this little fa***t is a millionaire.." became controversial and people complained that it was a homophobic slur. Mark Knopfler had to explain that the lyrics are seen from the point of view of an ordinary guy, a working man who watches the musicians on TV and makes fun of them because he thinks they are well off, unlike him who works hard. So, it's this character who speaks in a somewhat vulgar way, and Knopfler wanted the lyrics to reflect that. But over time, this word became more and more controversial, especially in Canada where people started to complain. As a result, some radio stations stopped playing Money for Nothing ! To stop the controversy Mark Knopfler finally authorized a censored version where the passage was purely and simply removed !! Although Knopfler defended the idea that it was the character who was speaking and not him, they preferred to avoid offending people. The idiots and their ”right thinking” have struck again !!

I was lucky enough to catch this tour at the Garden in NYC. It was a fabulous show. One of the local deejays was there as well and was talking the next day about how blown away she was.

It’s weird I always thought this was a fender but from what I learned later on this is actually like a Musicman Sixty Five or One Thirty. Which is basically kinda a bassman with a solid state preamp and a tube power amp

I was blessed to see this tour when it hit NZ. Sad that the group split not long afterwards but Mark said the whole production scale of the band was getting "too big",.

I recently listened to an interview with dure straits manager Ed bicknell, he said the on every street tour was extremely difficult because of personal reasons , Mark in particular was not too happy at the time , no signs of it here
