Love the design of the keyboard and excited to follow along with you on your journey. I went a different route but love that you are also practical in terms of what needs to be done now and what to aspire to do next. Personally I love the design, the sound to me sounds a little too tiny. I would also suggest to go to a keyboard meetup. That way you get to broaden your experience. Also I think it a journey to learn and grow and maybe even change of taste as you try other keyboards and setup. What I love about now is that there is so many different options to explore. There might be the HHKB studio that might appeal to you. It’s has some unique features that you might find handy in your career such as side swipes while also being MX style switches.

First of all, thank you so much for checking out the video. I appreciate the feedback and information. I'm going to try a few other keyboards and have already preordered another that I discovered around the same time I ran across the Altar I. I'll see if there's a keyboard meetup in my area, but for now I think I might review a few more premade keebs before I get into building custom ones. In addition, I just got an adapter so the 1990 Apple Extended Keyboard II that I showed in the first video is now working on my current Mac Studio. It's a great typing experience, but I think the Lofree Flow has really set the bar for what I like. Excited to try more and I'll make more videos as they come in.

Thanks for checking out the video. What you see is the natural changing of the surface material of the keyboard once you start using it. That is not dust or dirt. I only had the keyboard for two weeks, not long enough for it to get “dirty”. The Lofree Flow you see in the video is months older and I used it way longer and the surface didn’t change visibly; at least not as much as the Altar I.

i had the same problem with a similar form factor keyboard. it was a brand named "Onikuma" the only difference is, no side keys and no knob. but i liked what it looked like. but the same problem happeend. I kept hitting the wrong keys. i am not a great typist by far bu is the only keybaord that makes my dyslexia tame in comparison. i kept hittign side keys by mistake. and I have tried different keyboards, and i even have a ortholinear one that had the similar form factor (a 40% ortholinear) but I didnt get any problems with that and the only difference is, that didnt use chicklet type keys, thus even thought eh ortholnear has the same spacing, the keycaps used made up for the gaps that was meant to give you a guide.

Problems with the dial: * red doesn't match their monochrome + orange aesthetic as a co, fwiw * the red-to-black connection isn't smooth, and thus feels cheap * turning it sends too many incremental changes to the volume control, and you lose precision you should've had. You're spot on about the pairing nightmare. The key feel is just awful, and the spacebar feels like its clicking when it isn't, but over all just mushy. Shame, I had the same initial reactions you did :/ Waiting for my nomad(e) and hoping.

You know, I actually contacted them months before this came out and asked if you could change or customize the color on the dial. They told me it wasn't possible. I agree it sticks out, but I didn't mind the shape of it.

highly suggest you get into building your own keyboards, these days the barrier to entry is so so so much lower for new coming enthusiasts into the hobby, your only big issue is choice paralysis as you see tons of switches caps and such coming into the hobby every single day but we're at the point where all you really need to fully mod out a keyboard these days is lube and a solid small tip paint brush, switches are great out of factory, hot swap tech has gotten infinitely better, and you get to customize the parts of the keyboard you want to the highest level which guarantees you more control. It is as close to plug and play as you can get and I would 100% recommend it to anyone trying to dip their toes into the hobby. (Also that knob profile looks so bad comparative to the rest of the board but otherwise not a bad design, looks nice for low profile!)

Thank you for this and thanks for checking out the video. I do plan on getting into building my own keyboards, but just not at the moment. Once I start building the new gaming PC I have a whole separate area where it will reside along with a whole new streaming setup. (I'll be making videos on that project.) That will give me a new workspace and room for building. I am actually interested in creating my own keyboards that match my branding, but you are right; there are SO many choices!

I've got both a PS4 and an original Xbox One, but they're mainly ornaments in my bedroom today, I do put them on occasionally, but in all honesty, from about 2018 onwards, I was really only using my PS4 for watching Motorcycle Racing, but my LG Smart TV has all the Streaming apps I need now, so I virtually never turn my consoles on these days. I've been getting most of my games on PC for well over a decade now, and My current gaming PC outperforms all the current gen consoles by miles, that's not to say that I'd not get another console though, I had considered getting a PS5 or a Series X back when they were announced, but I chose to skip this generation with me having most of my games on the PC and If I wanted gamepass, I could get it on My PC. If I do get another console, I'll probably wait for the PS6 and Series X 2. I think both the S and X are both great machines though.

Hi. Do you know how many ohms the unit can comfortably power? I checked the manual & it doesn’t cover this. I emailed Mackie support & they were super unhelpful- basically said I should check online for reviews (there are none) and that they don’t believe publishing these specs would be helpful (wth 🤯🤦‍♀️). Obviously most people can’t afford to buy multiple pairs of professional headphones just to work out if the unit can power the amount of ohms- but Mackie thinks this is acceptable. Maybe I just got a poor customer support agent.. one hopes so….

Are you not able, for those who have it. Use the 3.5MM Audio out jack from their monitor and use it as an auxiliary cable and put it in the midi input 3.5MM jack and monitor the audio from there while still have the XLR input and route the audio in OBS. This deletes the use of a capture card if you are not capturing and just using it as an audio interface.
