Found you through a Video of Ben's when I was watching some of his back catalog. You give positive vibes and I enjoy your energy. I think you and I are going to agree on a lot of things. Glad to have found you. :)

I've been looking for a British vlogger who gets me excited about book reviews. I've found you! Subscribed and liked. Thank you..(or not as my bank balance is all the poorer now I've ordered these books) 😂

Top 3 for me are SYD, Safekeep, and James.
@benreadsgood2 ай бұрын
Not long until we find out! I think we have vaguely the same feelings about the shortlist - The Safekeep was also 5 stars for me but I can’t see it winning. Hoping for James or Stone Yard, but expecting Held or Orbital!

I couldn’t agree more about Co Ho, I read Verity for a book club read and curiosity because so many people love her books. It was definitely a few days of my life that I won’t get back. Each to their own but she is not for me
@BookishAdventuresInWellbeing2 ай бұрын
Hahaha your reaction to It Ends With Us made me chuckle! I loved Orbital. I never re-read books but can see myself reading that over and over. Saw Samantha Harvey at an event on Friday and loved hearing her bring the writing to life. Happy birthday Lydia 🎉

I agree that Ghosts of the Tsunami is such a good read! When is Richard Lloyd Parry coming out with his next book? That’s my question! 😀 Thanks for sharing your reading! It’s good to see you back and glad you are feeling well again.

Thanks for this, I really enjoyed it. I LOVE that someone, you, recommended M.R. James. I knew I had found a kindred soul. And I own both the Stephen King collections and the Eric Larocca one and I'm glad you suggested specific stories within them. I believe I shall go read one of them now. 😊Glad I found your channel!

@EileenSchmitt-r8d2 ай бұрын
@LydiaLostthePlot I've just finished Juice / Tim Winton, about a dystopian future ravaged by climate change. It's not a spring/renewal vibe, but it makes me think about our approaching summer! It's excellent. I'm really looking forward to reading Dusk / Robbie Arnott (my latest author crush).

Booker Shortlist? Of course! Wandering Stars is a good book, but it has one problem: it's not There There. To the question of whether you have to read There There to enjoy Wandering Stars, I may have a somewhat opposite position to what people usually say. I think you may enjoy Wandering Stars more without having read There There, so if it's only about reading Booker books, I don't think you have to. If it's just about reading good books, absolutely prioritize There There and consider Wandering Stars optional bonus material.

Thank you so much for this! Great advice!

Hi! Ive not read any Stephen King so thanks for the recommendation of where to start. What would you recommend for a first novel? ☺️ x
@LydiaLostthePlot4 ай бұрын
Hello! I would definitely suggest to go with something more thriller based to start with, such as Misery is a brilliant novel to kick off with and is King at his best (it's also not one of his longer ones!) xx

I’m also reading The Bee Sting at the moment and, while I had no problem picking up the book in the beginning, because there is a sense of things spinning out of control and I have no idea what is happening next, I find that the more I get attached to the characters, the more nervous I get to find out what happens too them…so sometimes I put it off. I’m absolutely loving it though! I just finished both Prophet Song and Pachinko and this book far outshines both of those for me as far as my favorite book I’ve read of late.
@LydiaLostthePlot5 ай бұрын
Huge fan of Pachinko, but still need to get to Prophet Song. My latest video out today will have my thoughts on The Bee Sting and it's incredible ending. . .must know your thoughts once you've finished it! x

I love There, There and read it just before Wandering Stars came out. Our book club is reading There, There and we meet next week. I’ll be listening to the book this time. Great way to get the authentic voices. Monstrillo sounds like it would be a one of a kind story - very creepy.

The Lost City of Z is great! I’ve been meaning to read The Wager ever since (name drop clang) Alan Carr recommended it to me. You’ve reminded me I need to get to it. I’m soooo excited for Monstrilio. Same with Supplication. I bought There, There recently cos Wandering Stars is on the Booker longlist. Ps. Don’t beat yourself up about buying books… your money, your choice and you’re supporting authors and the industry.
@LydiaLostthePlot5 ай бұрын
Thank you for that, I shall use it as an excuse to buy more books! Ooh get you hanging out with the stars and getting book recs (please continue to do this and pass them on to me haha!) I need you to read There There so I know if to get to it next or not.
