Does this use ambisonics internally? If so, what order? I'm guessing 7th, since you seem fond of 64 channels (even though I guess 64 partials is different than 64 ambisonic spatial channels).

Can we have alternate tuning frequencies in resonator section?

Yes! Where the KEY module says "12-equal" above, you can select many different tunings or your own .scl file. These pitches are sent to the resonators module or anywhere you like. -Randy

I can't help but notice the "12-equal" in the input module. Does that mean the input module will map MIDI notes to alternate tuning systems? What kind of variety is there in the mappings, can it use .scl files? I'm also curious if the partials are strictly harmonic or can they be non-whole number multiples too?
@madrona-labs4 ай бұрын
Yes, that's the scale / tuning menu. Sumu's is not active yet but for a preview you can check the demo of Aalto. It can read .scl files. The Sumu partials can be any frequency. -Randy

Very nice. licensed user here since last wk. MLabs have done something very unique here and I have only scratched the surface. As far as VUTU, Honestly, I haven't even made it to downloading the program yet! I have been having a blast using the built-in partial maps which I find already Quite versatile. I've been transforming some of the Keys in the factory bank into crazy nice pads like you demonstrate here. The time/slewing mechanism is immensely powerful, esp when you map the 64-channel outputs from the partial map module to all the other modules. It may not be obvious if you haven't read the manual but every single partial of the 64 has its own channel on the outputs. That is why the envelope looks the way it does. You got 64 envelopes there PER VOICE. The Space module Loves this and desires to be fed signals like these. Each of those dots in the Space module are one of the 64 partials on each channel. You're basically throwing those partials around in a semi-organised manner. This is FUN and can give you great control over the spatial placement (AND a surprising amount of tonal shaping) of pad layers, percussive elements or fx patches. The Pulse module is slightly esoteric at first, but again one had to remember there are 64 channels going in and out of it. I would highly appreciate deeper dives into EACH module actually, esp the more esoteric ones like Pulses and Space. The manual is in pre-release so perhaps not everything is covered in final detail, but some of the wording in the nice manual leaves me scratching my head just a bit. At any rate, this is a Fantastic forward-thinking take on additive-resynthesis. It fits perfectly in the family of Madrona Labs tools. Thanks for this one. Looking forward to future video examples/explanations. They are VERY much appreciated. PS I'll get onto trying Vutu soon...hopefully.

hi, is Vutu spectral processor?
@madrona-labs4 ай бұрын
The Vutu app is a spectral analyzer. It makes partials files that Sumu can play. Vutu can also export sounds and can be pushed with weird settings so I guess you can say it's a processor. But not a real time one. -Randy

crazy this is $129 and the regular price is $180. this really isnt worth that much. this isn't anything new you couldn't do/make with another vst like serum. $50-$70 would be much more reasonable
@simonnicolas52674 ай бұрын
Do you have any idea of what you're talking about ? Do you get the type of synthesis Serum offers (wavetable synthesis) vs. Sumu (additive resynthesis with vector field spatialisation)? I don't know of any plugin offering what Sumu does as of yet, you'd have to build it yourself in MaxMSP or Kyma.
@aio84324 ай бұрын
@@simonnicolas5267 if it can do so much why does it look simple and sound like shit
@simonnicolas52674 ай бұрын
@@aio8432 The sounding like shit argument is obviously how you feel about it so I won't argue with it, but to me "looking simple" is the main advantage of Sumu with this type of (re-)synthesis. Each "patch-cord" you see in the middle of the plugin includes 64 channels of modulations, this allows the whole engine to be easily controlled/modulated whereas you'd need to code/build homemade solutions if you wanted to achieve the same results with other platforms/software (with a lot of mc objects in max for example). Regarding to the price asked, the developper worked for years on this unique plugin, so it looks pretty fair to me, but again, we can disagree, maybe it's just not for you ? :)
@aio84324 ай бұрын
@@simonnicolas5267 im just confused how this one feature makes it $180 or even $129. there are max for live devices that can achieve a similar effect and they're like $20. yes, someone spent a lot of time on this, however, there are others out there who have also spent a lot of their time making similar plugins. what makes this one so unique? just seems like a granulizer integrated into a synth engine to me, which sure, while being cool, is superrrr gimmicky
